AF has a routine for having dirty planes, although I have many very dirty Aer Lingus planes.

It is not so much the dirty AF aircraft that I worry about, but the ones where paint is pealing off..... That is just neglect.

That one's not fair because when the photo was taken XU234 had not entered service yet, and had been sitting around at maintenance after being painted. I am not sure if it has been delivered yet, but they will definately give it a good wash before they do so!

....having said that, Orient Thai planes aren't normally all that clean though.

Air France cabin crew told me that the interior cabin is more important than the exterior aircraft because pax always stay inside the aircraft. That is why they always keep the interior cabin clean everyday so that pax can feel comfortable when they look at the clean interior cabin. They didnt mind outside the aircraft as long as they are clean enough.

Well then why was the 744 from JFK to CDG so ratty on the inside? I think that the problem is that Parisians are so used to truly dirty cars that they accept the outside of the aircraft being dirty as normal. Maybe they should switch over to a darker color scheme so the birds won't look as dirty.

You need to realize how much dust can collect on an aircraft. I have a close up picture of the door area of a brand-spanking new 767 that was delivered just a couple of days earlier and it was covered in a fine coating of dust. You could see the streaks of clean parts where the mechanics touched or rubbed up against the aircraft. With a little moisture, be it rain or even dew, the dust washes off and runs down the aircraft. Unless there is a lot of water, it doesn't totally wash off and ends up drying as you can see in the picture.

These discussions are sooooooooo OLD.

At least they're making money compared to the other major American players.

Although you may say it's so easy for dirt to build up, other airlines manage to keep their planes clean.
