New SWA Service - STL, BNA, PHL & Others Get Lots.

Some hightlights that caught my eye.

STL gets one daily (total two a day) to OKC and one daily added to OMA for a total of three.

PHL - LAX goes two daily.

WOW, did anyone ever think they would see a market like BNA-BWI with ten daily flights? I sure didn't.

PHL-MCO goes 5 daily
PHL-MHT goes 5 daily
PHL-BDL added with 5 daily

Finally, a PHL-BDL route is coming!  Big thumbs up

This route was US' last remaining monopoly; at least regarding PHL service to all major New England airports (BOS, BDL, MHT, & PVD).

FL has PHL-BOS; WN will cover the remaining 3.

Yes!!!!!!!!  Big thumbs up

Goodbye to $250-400 r/t PHL-BDL fares and Saturday night stay restrictions come Oct. 31.

I guess US will counter with their "GO Fares" to try and salvage the BDL-PHL market. Too little too late?

No doubt, they (US) will offer GoFares on this route. The question is will they offer them before Oct. 31?

As far as 'too little, too late' is concerned; it's been that way for quite a while.

Everyone knows US' (and other legacy carriers) history of matching the LCC's fare, then raising their fares back to where they were when the LCC dropped the service.

However, WN isn't leaving PHL anytime soon. It looks like the originally-predicted 40 flights will come to fruition literally one year from when WN first announced that it was coming to PHL.

Also, with WN now connecting PHL to 3 of the major New England airports; I would suspect (and suggest) that FL do its best to hold on to its PHL-BOS route despite US having 17 (going on to 18) flights for this service.

For the life of me, I can't understand why Airtran didn't jump in here first in a bigger way! They've got a better product and the argument about not having the lift doesn't hold water. Over the last 2 years they could have pulled relatively new md83s out of the desert and wouldn't have to bother with Ryan wet leases to the west coast. 5 daily to MCO on WN won't be flying empty. The market is there. Looks like alot easier city to break into than DFW for now.

I think its great that STL is getting more flights. SW has that big 12 (or so) gate terminal at STL and currently only seems to use it at about 50%. The STL-OMA route is otherwise a 7 hour drive and SWA is the only airline on it now that AA dropped all 6 of their daily MD80s.

Other STL routes that I think will see the same increase as the STL-OMA route would be STL-TUL and LIT. Both of these are long drives also and airline wise there is almost not other straight way to get there.

AA removed so much capacity from the STL market its only a matter of time before SW takes up the slack.
