Cathay Pacific plans on moving its' North American Headquarters from Southern California to San Francisco by the end of the year. The total staff will be about 45 persons. CX also expects to add additional service from SFO to HKG in the future.
Great that Cathay will move here. That makes two airlines weith their North American headquaters in SF: Cathay and Vietnam. We lost Qantas in 1993, when they moved their operations to Tucson, AZ. QF had a great building on Union Square that had the Qantas name and logo on top. Now its owned by Tiffany and Co.
I believe when CX does decide to add capacity at SFO, they will go for a afternoon departure as you mentioned. UA has the only afternoon departure from SFO to HKG. SQ 1 does not depart until after midnight.
I do not think CX will continue the flight onto other ports ie: ORD,DFW. CX is filling about eighty five percent of their flights. Out of that, only about ten percent are transit passengers. Most of the PAX are Bay Area bound. So, I would say CX will still rely on AA and other carriers to connect with their flight at SFO.
