Not 100% sure, but isn't it Air France-KLM? I know that it is the largest airline in Europe.

I would guess British Airways. Singapore is huge internationally but obviously has little domestic business.

In terms of revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), it would be...

...British Airways.

1. American
2. United
3. Delta
4. Northwest
5. British Airways
6. Continental
7. Lufthansa
8. Southwest
9. Singapore Airlines
10. Air France/KLM

So that would make One World the largest alliance? Or do the MANY members of the Star Alliance beat them. (PAX #'s). What are the largest Alliances? Is CO, DL, or NW part of any form of Alliance?

Thanks again!

According to this CNN news article, Southwest Airlines is the world largest airline by MARKET VALUE. Singapore Airlines is the second largest (by market value).

I guess having a large fleet doesn't necessary means that the airline is worth more.

To AC & Aussie747,

It says that US Airways is more profitable than SIA Group with a Net Profit (000) of $1,461,000.

SIA Group was $498,650.

Cheers.

In addition to earlier post, the magazine did say that the net profit of US Airways was pro forma, calculated by ATW. US Airways booked a $1.9 billion non-cash gain upon exiting Chaper 11 March 31, 2003. Excluding unusual items, the carrier had a pre-tax loss of $655 million.

Cheers.

At one time it was Aeroflot, man how times do change (and for the better in terms of the Cold War being over).

I notice that NW has now been jumped by Southwest. Southwest is the 3rd largest airline when looking at Enplaned Passengers. NWA reports themselves as the "5th largest airline", no longer the 4th. Going by Enplaned Passengers, Southwest is in the #3 slot easily. But the carriers with International service generally log more RPMs and therefore makes it difficult for the domestic LCCs to move ahead up. If anyone does, it will/is WN.
