WOW, i was at Birmingham airport yesterday and to my suprise i saw a Mahan Air A320 !!! I mean this is so strange because based upon US sanctions this cannot be possible, after all Iran Air have had countless airbus orders not come through for the very same reason. I even doubted weather i had seen a correct registration yet after checking the database it even has an Iranian registration, EP-MHJ.
strange but not so strange at all! After all, this an airline that is owned by the former president Rafsanjani, and just like any slick Polititian, knows how to pull some strings! In fact, I once seen a picture of A321 as well!
Also, this can be a lease thru a 3rd party (although seeing the reg. EP-MHJ makes me wonder if it is indeed owned and not leased!)
I have also heard that the sanctions limit IR to mainly US companies and that planes can not be younger than 10 years. Also, just last week (sorry I can not remember where I saw the news on the web), I read that IR is planning to purchase new Boeing and Airbus, and in that article, I learned about the sanctions and the 10 year policy. But as for Mahan goes, I bet Rafsanjani had something to do with it, don't forget that he also controls the largest Pistachio market to the world, and US is the biggest consumer! Nuts for planes, hey why not!
Thanks for some insite into this issue B727fan, but i still dont think that the US would be stupid enough to allow the sale of planes to one airline rather than an other whoever its owned by.
My only guess is like you that probably the plane is older than 10 years and is most probably second hand, as i just cant see any other way, unless theres a policy change somewhere.
Any who knows for sure, tell me tell me tell me, lol, thanks
