Independence Air- Great Inflight Service

Mon Jul 19, 2004 12:02 am

Just did my 2nd Independence Air trip and the inflight service is really outstanding!

CRJ (ijet) is very nice - seats have good pitch and are really comfortable

Snack service is great (sunchips, cookies, oatmeal bars, or pretzels)

Hot towels are a classy touch and make the cabin smell fresh

Mints are very nice touch at the end of the flight.

Flights were smooth and on time -

KEEP IT UP!!!

Good to hear that this new LCC is providing such a good service!
I will definitely use them next time between EWR-IAD.

Hot towels? Hot towels before snack service? Do they have newspapers?

Do they have these hot towels on IAD-JFK? Flight seems a bit short for such service.

Hot towels are on the longer range flights ex. IAD-ORD. JFK is a medium service destination so you get a full beverage service but none of the special extras. I've worked two I trips so far and it's been lots of fun. The feedback has been pretty good. It's nice to be offering a product I can be proud of.

To prepare hot towels you just pour hot water on them. Thats how they do it even when you have an oven onboard.

Not very easy to pack too many niceties into a shorter duration flight! I hope they can sustain it. How are the first two batches of destinations doing? Any numbers published? Lots of capacity hitting the market all at once. I wish them well. Hope Independence dosen't get over ambitious too soon! Look forward to seeing them next month at PVD.

I had a friend who flew ORF-IAD and on both segments, they all got hot towels. And I do believe that was a 30 or 35 minute flight? So they do indeed do it on the shorter flights as well..

It is great to hear the Independence Air is stating such a high value of class not found on some airlines in first class. I believe that Independence Air will succeed as long as the highly please their customers such as yourself. I have a feeling that as soon as it gets its A319's and 320's it will be profitable and rise to the stance that Jet Blue now or even greater (but by this time Jet Blue will be higher then they are now Big grin).

I certainly do wish Independence Air well...I knew several of their people when they were Atlantic Coast (from non-rev travel with them) and they were super.
Good luck!

Flew them their second day of operations, with delays all over the East Coast due to WXR. They kept us all informed from the check in to the gate agent. Even the pilot came to the gate with a weather map and gave us all (Over 100 displaced passengers) a briefing. Then the gate crew raided a plane that was grounded and served all the goodies to us at the gate. I have flown them three times since and found their service to be outstanding.

I flew them IAD-BOS and IAD-JAX so I guess they are the "longer flights" Had a friend fly them to ORF and she got bottled water, hot towel, and mint and another friend flew them to RDU and he got a beverage. Maybe Iairallie could explain the different services, I think they are awesome!!!!!

Sounds like Midway's old service. They had the leather seats, hot towels and mints on their CRJ's as well.

Their inflight service better be outstanding when your load factor is 28%.

As of right now, you and nine other passengers should be flying. Keep in mind that most all of our tickets are sold in the two weeks prior so that number will go up more than likely. I saw one from LAN that went from 3 to 38 in 4 days!

Other than the hot towels, this is not anything more than what SkyWest and many other regional carriers have been doing for years. Don't mean to rain on their parade, but what was mentioned in the OP, was not great service, but good amenities. What will sell an airline these days is how good the customers are treated. Thats service.

There are currently 3 levels of service based loosely on length of flight and market. Long involves a full beverage service plus lots of nice extras. Medium is a full beverage service only. Short bottled water plus extras. My loads have been falling at about 50%. Most have been a bit less, 22-ish. However there were one or two flights that were nearly full. RDU had 46 pax still getting used to a tray service so I really had to run my tail off to get a beverage to everyone.

When an airline starts up, many flights will not go out full. Take Southwest for example; they had very abismal loads for the first few months, with many flights going out empty. It took them at least a year to have a growth in demand.

Sorry I thought the service they provided went without saying because I have only heard great things.

Yes, the "amenities" were provided by the flight attendants with a warm, friendly smile and overall they provided outstanding service. Everyone at the airline seemed to be doing their best to treat the customer well.

Thanks Iairallie for your explanation of the service levels. I think not having the cart is a great idea for us customers. Makes the cabin seem more open and you are free to get up and use the lav on shorter flights where it would normally be blocked by the cart almost the whole cruise portion of flight.

Also, what terminal do they fly out of at JFK?

Thanks.  Smile

I worked for B6 for a while and when we first started in 00' the loads were terrible (22 on one of the first FLL flights). I'm sure with service like that Indy Air will take off once word starts to spread around (which takes a while).

Wish them well

Just got off the phone with a friend who flew with flyi after I told her about them and she agreed "they are awesome"!!!! She flew IAD-BOS and I knew you all would want to know so I asked her about the load. She said somewhere in the area of 3/4 full.

So how are the loads from RDU doing? Have they increased to at least 60-65%? At one point, I think they were running in the 40% level...

Guys, these are just guesses, but for the RDU, the crystal ball shows about 50% right now. There is nothing scientific about these observations and they might not be accurate......... (gotta love the legal disclaimer)

As far as I have seen and heard they are all totally refurbed.

Bright blue leather seats are the most noticeable upgrade. They are darn comfortable.
