Most Non-Stop Destinations Out Of One City

Mon Jul 19, 2004 4:44 am

I just read that MSP is now leading in the city with the most destinations served non-stop. Does anyone know what city has the most destinations served non-stop? MSP has something like 155 non-stops.

Every flight is a non-stop flight from point a to point b.

I know that, it's just that many airports have one-stop service to many destinations. Example: At MSP you can look on the Arrivals/Departures screen and see Beijing which NWA does not serve non-stop from MSP but has a stop at NRT.

I don't know where you read this, but I doubt it is MSP.

I would think that LAS is way up there. If I'm not mistaken, it's the only US airport served by every US airline. Considering the destinations these airlines offer, I'd put my money on LAS:

AA
CO
NW
WN
HP
DL (incl. Song)
UA (incl. Ted)
US
AS
FL
F9
Spirit
Midwest
Allegiant
Aloha
ATA
Champion Air
Hawaiian
Sun Country

I'd put my money on ATL. Delta serves a very wide variety of European destinations, as well as just about every city in the Eastern US with all their express connections.

I would agree that ATL has the most cities served nonstop. Delta alone serves around 150 cities from ATL nonstop.

Possibly it´s a head on head between ATL and MSP, like it´s between ATL and ORD in terms of passengers.

A long shot here, but what about the US airport with the most international destinations. I'd venture a guess it's JFK.

But I'm not too keen on LAS. I think it may be MCO/SFB, if you consider them as one city. I do, at least. All of the service to every major hub on every major airline, plus the LoCos, the international service to MCO/SFB with scheduled and charter airlines to Europe, Canada, and Mexico, plus all of the domestic "express carriers", especially DL Connection to all of the places like CHS, BHM, IND, etc.

I think greater Orlando is one of the most well-served cities, if not the most well-served, in the entire country.

Well, it used to be, and maybe still is, Heathrow - not only for 'most non-stop destinations' but also for the most International destinations.

Hence Britsh Airways' past claim to be the 'World's Favourite Airline'! They said they carry more International passengers than any other airline! Ergo!

Figures MAY have changed, but I doubt it!

Last heard, I heard that the city with the most nonstops was Atlanta, then Chicago, then MSP, then CVG.

MIA has to be up there somewhere as well. With non stops to pretty much every MAJOR city in South America, Central American and bigger Caribbean destinations as well as European and Domestic destinations. So definetly in the Top 5 if not Top 10.

The thing is, there are more minor destinations than major.

MSP may serve a bunch of minor destinations. LAS, ATL, and ORD assuredly do.

Minneapolis having the most non-stops is not at all out of the question, considering it is a key hub to all those small communities in the Dakotas, Montana, and Minnesota. It has non-stop service to just about every major/midsize city in the US, and tons of EAS route. Atlanta has service to pretty much every major/midsize city too, but not as many in the West, and no EAS service.

Atlanta does have the most, with ORD, MSP and CVG all in the top 4. There was a recent news article about it. I'll try to find it and post a link.

Because I can bend the rules, I'd say Chicago. With 4 airlines hubbed at 2 airports, it's easy to see why- the topic does ask for the CITY with the most non-stops.
As for the AIRPORT with the most non-stops, I don't think ATL isn't too bad a guess

There was an article in the Salt Lake City tribune last November about this. The link I had is now dead but the AIRPORTS with the most nonstop flights were

1. ATL (147)
2. DFW (132)
3. MSP/ORD (130)

I think 4th was CVG.

As said in reply #16 it was asked for the city with most routes. So I would say it's NYC. JFK has tons of intl. Destinations MSP can only dream of. And CO also flies to a lot of cities (big and small) out of EWR. Add LGA and some smaller airports and you should get an impressive number.

The number that IAH is placing on their sign boards is 128 destinations non-stop if I remember that correctly.

Premobrimo is correct... in terms of number if individual airports served non-stop, IT IS MSP. This doesn't mean most number of flights, it means number of different non-stop destinations... doesn't matter if most of those are small cities.

Hmm... he did say "city", all right, not airport. So does that mean EWR gets included with LGA and JFK?

As for airport with most nonstop destinations, it used to be Frankfurt, and probably still is. Amsterdam probably #2.

The June 2004 OAG shows 191 nonstop destinations from ATL, and about 147 from MSP. I also checked LAS: 107 or maybe a couple less. So ATL may be tops in the US, but it isn't higher than #3 in the world.

I looked on Fraport`s website and in an press release from 15.10.2003 they mentioned that they serve 286 airports in 104 countries by 111 different carriers.

Unfortunately they don't differentiate between nonstops and directs.

The June 04 OAG shows about 202 nonstop destinations out of EWR/JFK/LGA. So even that combination can't beat Frankfurt, probably. We'll see about LHR/LGW and CDG/ORY.

The June 04 OAG shows 317 nonstop destinations from six London-area airports. That doesn't include the Rimini flight, which may be discontinued by now, but it does include the flights from Biggin Hill to BBP.

And of course it doesn't include anything that doesn't appear in the OAG-- like Sanford?

No they don't. You have forgotten that most destinations are "double served" from both airports and overlap.

And, not that it matters much, but Miami's numbers...

MIA: 121 (44 domestic/77 international)
FLL: 76 (49 domestic/27 international)

Total (with overlap): 144 (57 domestic/86 international)

Note people this is coming directly off the Ohare.com website, so no ORD does not offer the most direct flight but the most connecting flights. Hope this helps:

"O'Hare International Airport offers more connections to more cities, more often than any other airport in the world. To find which carriers offer service to specific cities, click on the first letter of the city's name."

Plus Timz you forgot cities like Tel Aviv, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo, San Jose-Costa Rica, and El Salvador, I believe all these destinations were direct, correct me if I am wrong.
You got to be careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there.
