Bombardier New Jet, Some More Info.

Mon Jul 19, 2004 8:24 am

An interesting article from the Financial Times:
http://news.ft.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=FT.com/StoryFT/FullStory&c=StoryFT&cid=1087373796068

Presentation to the main board by January 2005, seeking launch customers in the first half of the year, industrial launch by mid-2005 and entry into service by 2010 at the latest.

“The group is expected to announce today that it has already opened contacts with the UK trade and industry department and with the regional development agency in Northern Ireland to establish what financial support could be available to aid the $2bn development programme of a new family of 110 to 135 passenger jets.”

…and a Bombardier representative said today that up to 1/3 of this $2bn development programme would be financed by governments.

Scott,

There have been some threads about NW looking at around 70 pax. RJ's, so you never know, other than that, I'm not sure of any.

The benefits of having plants in two politically "sensitive" areas - the easier it is to play governments against each other. CEO Tellier has been saying for a while now that the NCAP would be assembled where they get the most government support.

It will be very interesting to see how much money Tellier might actually extract from the Canadian government. The Canadian political landscape has changed quite a bit since December. First the the PM retired (who's son-in-law until recently was a BBD Director) and the current PM ended up with a minority government in the June elections which will hamper being able to freely "support" BBD as in the past.

The FT wasn't entirely accurate as the NCAP would be going up against not just the 717 (in fact, by target EIS date of 2010, what are the chances of the 717 still being in prodction  Big grin ) and A318 but obviously the 736, 73G and A319 as well.

Bombardier apparently unveiled a mock-up of the new jet at Farnborough. Anyone have links to some pictures?

Love that picture...are we sure they didn't just digitally alter a photo of an Embraer 170?  Big grin LOL, I know there is a finite number of aircraft configurations that work efficiently, but surely they can come up with something a little more original!

Actually, the digi-photo was taken from the the BRJ-X bin.
The model, to me, looks like they borrowed the nose from 728 programme....
