I like the new paint job better on the 717 than the 737-700. Kinda growns on you.

I think this livery ages this a/c. Makes it look more like a DC9 than it used too.

P.S. I know, NW has hundreds of them.... don't start.

After this aircraft, how many more 717s does FL have on firm order?

I have to agree with NWA747-400 that this looks like a DC9 and not a 717. I loved the old paint scheme, but I guess that over time, I could get used to that blue/red combo and the fact that they have to be tacky and put their website address on the engine.

I don't like it, it looks just as bad as the 737...the paint on the nose makes it look like a duck  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Maybe the fact that I hate the 717 without the eyebrow windows adds to my disliking, it just doesn't look right.

I much prefer the good old tan + teal combo.

In my opinion, i think it is ugly...looks too much like the original livery before the "merger" with valuejet.

The eyebrows cost extra money, and that adds to the bottom line. Also I believe it is not a lot of B717's still on order, I think it is less than 10, although I could be wrong.

This is the only blue I like on a 717.... AirTran, take a hint from this paint scheme on how to really paint a plane.

Yes, AFTER this frame, AirTran gets 10 more new 717s. Source: http://www.airlinerlist.com Another interesting thing, the registration N7071U was requested a year ago for this construction/line number in March 2003, but not taken up. Can anyone confirm if this aircraft was first planned to be the Executive Jet demonstration model and was that plan shelved due to lack of interest?

I still would've preferred that the teal 'swoosh' be positioned at the front of the tail fin as opposed to the rear. Although the posted angle shot does a good job of concealing it. The livery doesn't look as disjointed as it does on the 737; the location of the engines on the 717 help out somewhat. If the engines had to be blue, it least it's a darker shade. A lighter blue would've looked hideous and clashed more with the teal.

To Smcmac32msn,

I agree with you. YX's latest livery is one of the better new blue liveries I've seen to date. I also like the choice you made on selecting the 2nd YX 717 photo. BOS is my former-hometown airport.

PHLBOS - Thats one of my all-time favorite pics, plus it gave a good angle of how big those engine intakes really are. I figured I'd do a back/side shot and a nose shot.

Hideous.... As the old adage goes, "If it's not broken, don't fix it." Airtran just fixed something that wasn't broken.

I still don't like the blue engines, they should be teal.
And now that I see it from the front, the curvy line on the bottom makes the whole damn thing look like a tennis shoe, and an old one at that.
Even though I am not a fan of the "Euro White" look, I think that in this case if they did the following it would look better:

All White Fuselage
Same AirTran Titles on Fuselage
Tail the same (Teal) with Teal engines.

Kinda makes one pine for the days of the critter.....which would have looked pretty cool on a 737, or even a 717.

Although it is better than the 37 in so many ways, they need to make the engines teal, get rid of the red and tone down on the black on the nose making it a smooth straight uniformed line projecting horizontal rather than curved. that is what I didn't like about what WS did with their 73Gs they had a straight line and then switched to a wavy gravy one.. a bad idea in any livery.

I agree completely. He should be shot...

The world's largest operator of the 717 now will have the world's largest fleet of absolutely hideous aircraft. They certainly know how to destroy the aesthetics of a class MDD product- paint it white (for the most part. TWAs schemes were gorgeous).

I thought this was a 717 in for it's c-check and re painted. This is a new jet. I'd love to see FL receive about 20 more of these this year. They could be put to good use.

I think it looks better on the 717 than it does on the 737. My only problem is the engines are in blue as opposed to green. I like the hint of blue but with the green tail the engines would look better in green IMHO.

It's just that curve up at the nose that makes it ugly. If only it became straight at the nose this livery would look FINE.

But making it curve up at the nose makes it very ugly and goes against the flow of the aircraft's lines. If it must curve at the nose, curve it DOWN, not up. but straight would have been best.  Sad

As someone who originally hated the new livery based on looking at the pictures of it, the new livery has grown on me. Much like Northwest's Silver livery, it looks better in person. I saw one of the 737s landing @ ATL while I was at lunch today, and I thought to myself "I wonder when they'll have a 717 in the new livery?" Imagine my surprise to see this thread and photo.

I wonder how long until this bird sports a tan nosecone?

When all of you guys own a majority of stock in AIRTRAN then you can bitch all you want. I think it looks fine. I saw the 73Gs in Atlanta two Sundays ago and they looked nice....
The blue on the engines is the same blue that is in the smaller stripes..they just chose to put it on the engines.....Two things tho...and that is they should have kept the creme coloured fuselage....we have too many White planes running around everwhere....and I think the AirTran.com on the engine is tacky..I think any airline that puts it dot com address on the side or worse their phone numbers (Easy Jet) Those people should be slapped around.
This new AirTran livery looks NOTHING like the Old Valujet....that blue was a powder blue and if anything the current Air Tran colours are just a reworking of the Valujet scheme....just the design was simplified from the original AirTran colours.
Oh, well.....Ive said what I wanted to say....

Cheers, Access-Air
