DL Connection does go through SLC with Skywest, I believe. This ATL-RNO run will be the only mainline flight. There were flights between DFW and RNO, but those were discontinued after 9-11.

RenoAir tried a RNO-ATL flight years ago. But it didn't work out. DL's large hub should make this more likely to succeed.

This is great news for RNO - I hope it works out

The Reno Paper online edition ran an article that included an interesting graphic of the cities that RNO-ATL customers will be able to connect to

http://www.rgj.com//news/stories/html/2004/07/18/75910.php

The grahpic is questionable to a.netters, but, to me, it's interesting that the paper included this in their presentation to John Q. Public. A great promotion for DL, good for the paper, and good for RNO!

That paper really loves to cover its airport. If you have an interest in RNO, I would recommend subscribing to the Reno Gazette Journal email updates. They really cover RNO well. You'll see a story several times a month about the goings on at RNO.

reno air's flight didnt work because of pax loads, it was because of the range with the a/c. they could fly full loads on their md-90 or md-87 a/c, but would have to leave behind scores of luggage.

Scotty:

The link worked fro me fine. The story I referenced was in the Monday July 19th edtion online. (I say that because the posting will get old) The general URL for the paper is

http://www.rgj.com

From there there is a link to the story - but that will go away after today, 7/19/04.

Happy Flying!

I think that this is one baby step in the right direction for Delta...being able to add mainline service to a "new" destination.

If I remember correctly, DL flew RNO-ATL in the past. I am pretty sure of that. I always think about Reno, when they talk about airlines adding service there, as a former destination for DL from ATL. I know for a fact they used to have mainline from at LEAST SLC and DFW and als they used to have RJs to Elko, NV.

An interesting note is that these are not red eyes. I say this because part of cost cutting is getting every mile out of these planes. Instead of getting to RNO at 9:17pm and leaving out of RNO at, say, 10:30pm, the plane has to overnight. I know that there are more connection opportunities at 3pm, but I think there are enough to serve the market at 6am-8am. If the route proves successful (which it probably will), I'd expect it to go to a redeye as well as this flight...my 2 cents there.

DL has never flown ATL-RNO nonstop. You always had to connect either through DFW (before it was cut) or SLC (now RJ's or one-stop EMB120's via Elko).

Correct never has DL flew ATL-RNO, to add to what FlyPNS1 said RNO also had service to FAT. DL went SLC-FAT-RNO-SLC and reverse.

Delta Connection/Skywest still flies RNO-EKO. They offer three daily EM2 flights. I don't think they ever flew RJs on the route.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at one time didn't DL fly DFW-OAK-RNO-DFW once a day (late evening if I remember correctly)?

the reason that the flight overnights is crew rest, they put the crew up for the night, and the same crew in flies the plane out in the morning since dl mainline only has one flight a day into reno

DL went SLC-FAT-RNO-SLC and reverse.

If you go back further, I believe the routing used to be LAX-FAT-RNO-SLC and return. The SLC-FAT-RNO-SLC and reverse routings came after DL cut back at LAX.

That graphic in the article is pretty good.. but it seems to omit quite a few destinations that the flight connects to.. like.. well, all of Europe for one. It only mentions London, but the arrival time should match up with most (if not all) of the Europe departures. Also, IIRC, the vast majority of the Caribbean departures are in the morning or early afternoon from ATL.. so I'm not sure how this flight would connect to them without an overnight stay.
Ask why..

Does anyone know if DL will bring back some employees to work this flight? or will it be contracted out? if so, then who? Skywest?
If you can read this your flying too close
