TAP And Varig Agree On Codeshare Flights

Tue Jul 20, 2004 5:52 pm

TAP and Varig reach agreement on code share flights between Brazil and Portugal.

The two airlines will share flights in the routes between GIG, GRU and LIS.
Also included are flights from LIS to REC, FOR, NAT and SSA.

Currently, TAP keeps 38 weekly scheduled flights from LIS to Brazil, and Varig runs seven weekly flights for Lisbon

The agreement was possible after TAP joinned Varig in Star Alliance, last June, and begins on October 31.

up and up and up goes the price of flying to Brazil, now. this was expected and overall TAP joining the alliance is good for TAP, and LIS...

The same goes for the codeshare with Continental from Newark... ticket price got really expensive - no sales... wonder what will happen with that agreement after TAP joins the star alliance... and Continental will join the Skyteam....
Airbus or Boeing - it's all good to me!

No sales from EWR to LIS on Continental?

Think Again!

Having access to Coair.com, CO's employee res system, I can definentely tell you otherwise. What surprises me quite frankly is that there are not more flights to Portugal everyday from the US. It is damn near impossible to find flights in the summer months (esp) if you havent done so by around May.

Anyhoo, yeah.

Well

TAP is offering EWR-LIS-EWR by USD 869, depending on one's "wallet" it can be considered cheap., reasonable or expensive....

This is somewhat good news for me. I am planning on going to Spain in November and, for obvious reasons, Tap should offer me good availability and therefore a reasonable price.

Tap offers good connections in Southern Europe and I´ll benefit because if I fly Tap on the occasion I´ll be able to earn miles with my Smiles (Varig´s FFP). If the price is not good I´ll just fly another company.

The truth is that Tap has the NE part of Brazil all to herself, but on flights out of GIG, GRU and all the other cities which connect through these hubs (my case) it faces intense competition from TAM, Iberia, AF, BA, KLM, Alitalia, Swiss and up till now from Varig and Lufthansa as well. I don´t think prices will rise because of this CS agreement.

BTW, is there any word on CS by Tap on Varig domestic flights and by Varig on Tap European ones?

No word yet as for intra-european and intra-brazillian flights. The info I have access to only mentions the above flights.

Anyway, since both companies are Star Alliance members that is a strong possibility.

Hey TAP1972,

At that price, TAP is currently cheaper than CO (which I saw as high as USD $1400 for a coach seat). Also, given the choice, I would always rather fly TP. Nothing like savoring "vinho do Dao" at 37000ft.

Ate ja...

Varig 747-400

Wed Jul 21, 2004 11:47 pm

I have just read in a Brazilian magazine that varig are awaiting delivery of 2 x 757s,now I have heard this story recently (ex Iberia),but the article also said that Varig are also talking to MAS about getting 4 x 747-400 and one of the first routes will be AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA to GRU,which LH also uses 747-400,it seems to me with all these new routes this year and getting planes left right and center (ex SWISS ex BA ex IBERIA) that they are depending on global upswing in passengers traveling to get them out of there huge financial meltdown that they are presently in.
A huge gamble if you ask me,we will see in the next 18 to 24 months if this pays of or not.Anybody know anything about these MAS planes!

These plans that you mention GLENNPOWER are very ambitious; I hope that if they are true RG has thoroughly considered all the pros and cons and has confirmed that the addition of new planes and frequencies will have a positive impact in their financial results. Hopefully this will free some 772's so that we can see RG fly 772's everyday to MEX (by the way, does anybody know if RG is indeed going to add more frequencies to MEX as someone mentioned a few weeks ago here in a.net?).
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738
