Sukhoi RRJ Has Been Launched

Thu Jul 22, 2004 1:03 pm

As if this market wasn't crazy enough  Big grin -

http://www.mosnews.com/money/2004/07/20/sukhoisale.shtml

The E190/170 is entering service, we've already got the 717 and CRJ, Bombardier wants to launch the C-series... yikes.

Now the $64,000 question is, will this Russian aircraft ever achieve any serious export? Isn't Boeing a contractor in this project as well?

Just a follow on post-

Sukhoi Sells 50 Civil Aircraft for $1Bln
MosNews

On the first day of the Farnborough air show Russian Siberia airlines and Sukhoi construction bureau announced that they have signed a deal for a delivery of 50 regional civil aircraft. The deal is said to be worth approximately $1 billion, Prime-Tass economic news agency reported.

Under the agreement Sibirea airlines will purchase 50 Russian Regional Jet (RRJ) aircraft starting in 2007. The price of each airplane is about $20 million. The first aircraft are to be built in 2006, with deliveries beginning in 2007.

Russian Regional Jet planes are designed jointly by Russia’s Sukhoi Civil Aircraft and Ilyushin Aircraft and U.S. Boeing. The planes will be powered by SM146 engines, designed by the French Snecma and Russian Saturn company. Different modifications of the aircraft are to have a 60 to 95 passenger capacity. They will be capable of flying up to 5,000 kilometers (3,120 miles).

"the price of each airplane is about $20 million."

How does this compare with the prices with their would be competitors? I have no idea how much ERJ's and CRJ's run. I guess add the 717 for that matter. Thanks
