Aviacsa Opens CTO In Miami

Fri Jul 23, 2004 7:05 am

Aviacsa has opened a CTO (city ticketing office) in downtown Miami, located on the first floor of SunTrust tower, right next to elevator to Ross. It is located were an AA CTO was previously located (that location moved to the rent-free first floor of the American Airlines Arena), though that one closed after 9.11. I was very surprised seeing this, especially considering CTO's are now a thing of the past. I remember after 9.11, airlines closed down CTOs everywhere, since it was an easy place to cut costs. American Airlines, for instance, only kept seven CTOs open - three of them in Miami (downtown, Coral Gables, and Little Haiti). Three other airlines have CTOs in downtown Miami: Lloyd Aero Bolivano, Varig, and El Al. I was pleasantly surprised to see them open a CTO. I've always though they were kinda cool, though kind of pointless in today's world.

This are great news, it really means that Aviacsa is doing well on the MTY-MIA route, I hope this CTO helps them to go deeper in the market.

ScottysAir: Yes, Aviacsa's code is 6A on IATA and CHP on ICAO...

Expect an announcement about fleet renewal in the short term. More routes and destinations both within Mexico and in the US....

About the CTO in Miami I can just applaud that; true that it is becoming something of the past, but at this time, it is still a major revenue generator for the company as a lot of the sales are done straight with the airline at its sales points and directly at the ticket counters at the airports. This is not, however, 100% the case of MIA, as Aviacsa caters leisure travelers who most of the times have their travel arrangements already done.

Good news and its always nice to see a CTO from any airline in your city when you really like aviation!

A small movement but 6A its getting stronger and stronger!! When they announced this new service a lot of people even compared them to the failed attemp from AA once on the MTY-MIA route.

I think the route has done well for two reasons:

1) Miami is the new "it" city in Mexico, especially among Mexico's upper class. Whether it be for a family vacation or a second home, Mexicans love Miami now more than ever.

2) They are offering very affordable fares throughot Mexico via Monterrey. This has been attracting customers from both sides. Miami-Mexico fares are typically on the high side.
