Star Alliance Screensaver (flight Tracker)

Fri Jul 23, 2004 6:38 pm

This is a really great screensaver...check it out!

You can see all Star-Alliance planes in the air, all over the world. Very cool indeed!

Wow, very interesting, but I wonder how much of it is accurate.

And don't forget you need a web connection, so forget about putting it on a non-wired computer.

I had that screensaver....got bored of it a few days later.

Now I have one from a window view of different planes in a Holding pattern Smile

Very nice to watch...Loads of different planes and it's at different views in the plane and different times of the day Smile

A320eva,
Is there a link where you can download your screensaver?

I have had the Star saver for over a year, maybe even longer and if I could get another Aviation-saver I would gladly replace it...

UTA_flyinghigh,
it does also work when you are not online. You only have to be online to get the updates which is not very often.

It's a great app. I have it installed for a long time. Unfortunately it is not clean of bugs, especially if run on a stand-alone machine.

One word of advice...dont ever download this, you can never get it off your computer.

I downloaded it about 3 months ago, have had every possible avenue to delete it explored, but it just wont go!

It's not really a flight tracker. The screensaver displays where the aircraft should theoretically be at that time. Still a pretty cool screen saver, however.

I love it and have it on my machine (not tried to delete it tho'). As Pilottim747 says, it works off the timetables of the various Star Alliance members

But it is not real time! Same old thing all the time!

I agree with Sammyhostie. Don't download it unless you want it on your computer forever. I've had this for several months now. I really like Star Alliance and I thought it would be a good app, but it always want to update itself all the time and will load on your computer to ask you everytime you start your computer. It's really, really annoying. I've tried to take it off, but unlike other programs, it won't go away. Be aware before you download!

I downloaded the screensaver before the messages about it being difficult to delete appeared.

I thought the screensaver was a little tacky so sent it straight to the recycle bin and it disappeared first time. No more trace of it on my computer.

I don't know why other people have had trouble getting rid of it. I'm just an ordinary, casual computer user....

I installed this screensaver before. But played for several days found the information is just a "game", not a "real situation" of planes in a particular time on a particular date.

For deletion, I just click to another screensaver to cover it.

Yeah, it's not as great as I thought. Too bad it couldn't reflect actual real-time flight data. That WOULD be cool. I haven't tried uninstalling it yet (as I still find it interesting to see all of the many STAR routes), but I think it should be easy to get rid of. Just go to control panel > add/remove programs, etc. If it is a regular app, it should appear on your list of programs, and you should be able to delete it.

I too had the same problem, there was no way of deleting the damn thing permanently. But I recently reformatted my hard drive (had the dreaded blaster virus) and now its gone forever. I think I will stick to my windows logo screensaver from now!

I don't think we can get the "real time" flight tracks update since 911
