CX 747-400 At Farnborough Tomorow

Sun Jul 25, 2004 5:56 am

Hey all,

Can someone tell me which CX aircraft will be on display at Farnborough tomorow?

I have heard rumours that it is the World City Aircraft, B-HOY. Is this true?

Cheers,

Simon

I've heard that rumor as well but can't confirm it for you, but if it puts on a display like the South African 747-400 did today you wont disappointed. Also the Red Arrows put on an absolutely spectacular display. It was a fantastic day and I've got the sunburn to prove it. Big grin

I think Cathay has replaced SAA for tomorrow, I checked on the Farnborough website and there's no mention of SAA for tomorrow, originally they were scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Cathay is doing a show instead of the SAA 744.

Good reason why the Farnborough website didn't mention the South African display tomorrow - it happened on Friday!

I don't think CX could do any display as they haven't done the display qualifications.

Hey I was there yesterday (24) as well and also go the sunburn!

SAA did put an absolutely stunning display, i's so amazing to see a 744 doing all those twist and turns! and the spiral climb to 8000ft... WOW!

Also I loved the A346 and A318 displays....and the ERJ190 and the Alenia C27J showing you how to stop a plane in no time... the red arrows did a good show too and the F16 and the F18 hornet!! (who said Concorde was noisy?)

well as you can see I enjoyed the whole thing! cant wait to go back in 2006 and see the A380!! oh boy oh boy!!!

Don't get your hopes up for an interesting display. It will do two flypasts, one at low speed, the other at 350kts...that's about it. We aren't known for making airshow appearances, and I would be very surprised if management have authorised the crew to do a full display. Either way, hopefully this is a start to some more interesting appearances in future!

Both the SAA and CX 744's were taking part because of the 100th anniversary of Rolls Royce, both being RR powered. RR paid the airlines to operate the flights IIRC. Also both airlines regularly day stop their a/c at LHR so no impact on any flight schedules would have occured as the a/c were not doing anything anyway.

The SAA display was an excellent but left me a little dissapointed, they did a display at Duxford last september and flew the aircraft at much lower altitudes than yesterday, only 600 ft yesterday

Here are 2 from Duxford, aircraft much lower than yesterdays display

Glenn

What a coincidence that the same aircraft was used at Farnborough and Duxford - ZS-SAK

The aircraft did in fact just do two fly pasts and then headed off to Heathrow. Nothing spectacular, except the paint scheme  Big grin

The harrier put on a great show. I'm not a big fan of milatary/fighter aircraft but the harrier was great! I loved the Hercules display too, where they turned it off the runway and the cars came out and drove past letting off yellow "smoke." Then reversed back onto the runway and took off. That was great!

Great show!

So that explains why B-HOY arrived at Gate 20 at Terminal 3 at Heathrow under its own power around 1630 hrs (instead of the usual being towed in from a remote stand) for my flight back to HKG.

I saw the SAA 744 on Friday at Farnborough - stunning! And judging by the number of people that started to leave after its display was over, it must have been a lot of people's highlight of the show.

EZYAirbus,

Due to safety reasons, aircraft had to be over 600ft, except when landing, and they also had to keep claer of the spectator area, which is why after take off they all turned right.
