Hi. I guess it might be possible, if only because MEL
is a 24-hr operation, whereas SYD
has a 2300-0600 jet curfew (717 & BAe146's excepted). This is, however, of limited value due to arrival times at other airports on the other side of the world, if a 0400 London or LAX
flight were to be scheduled. And most domestic travel would be similarly affected (e.g. who would want to travel to BNE
or wherever, at 0300!) Also SYD
is the most politically constrained airport in Oz, capped artificially at 80 mvmts/hr. for no real reason.
Both airports seem to be in a similar state of readiness (i.e. barely...) for the A380 which will be flown in early in that a/c's service life to both apts., by QF
so, I don't believe that will be a factor. It will be close result numbers-wise.
That said, Sydney (and here please appreciate I am risking my life in saying this
) would seem to be the perennial favourite gateway to Oz for foreigners, esp. tourists, so this might keep SYD
just ahead of MEL
, in the end.
BTW, my "home" apt. is SYD
. Hope this gives you some more info/insight.
