Cheapest Way From YOW-YYC Last Minute

Wed Jul 28, 2004 9:47 am

Hi everyone,

Two days ago, I booked my flights from YOW-YYC and return and I was supposed to be traveling alone. Somehow, one of my friends decided he also wanted to take a trip to the rockies and Calgary with me. Only problem is, fares have gone up quite a bit in only two days. Air Canada was dirt cheap when I booked them but they're now as expensive as Westjet or flying on the lime green smiling face. And 700$ round trip is just too much for his budget. So, would you guys have any suggestions? I thought about waiting for Conquest to lower their fares on YYZ-YYC but can I really count on that?

Secondly, this will be my first time visiting Alberta! Any must see (apart from Lake Louise, Banff, etc.)? Eau Claire market in Calgary worth it? Plus, everything, I mean, every single hotel/motel/B&B room in Banff/Canmore/Lake Louise is sold out. Any suggestions, because for now, it looks like I'll have to stay in Calgary. Oh, true, I'll have to go spotting at the end of my trip in Westjet land. Big grin

Regards, 'Safe

All I can suggest is expedia.ca or call a local travel agent to see if they can dig something up. I'm sure if you buddy can work out a way to go from YYZ or YUL instead of YOW, he will get way more options.
Give me a mile of road and I can take you a mile. Give me a mile of runway and I can show you the world.

Actually Edward, we've been doing that all night (checking from YUL/YYZ) without any success unfortunately. Expedia is in fact proposing me AC flights at 2136$.

Safe Flyer,
I would go to the Air Canada Website and try and book a tango fare. There is a YOW-YYC departure on AC on July 30 for $189. However, most are sold out. Perhaps you can look into purchasing fun fares. I can help you if you give me the travel dates.

The Drumheller badlands area and the Royal Tyrell Museum in particular can be quite interesting, if you're interested in dinosaurs.

Spending a night on the Red Mile downtown might also be worth it. It's not Playoff season, but it is summertime in Calgary.... and there's still plenty to see  Big grin

The Glenbow museum is alright, too. The Museum of the Regiments is great if you're into military history. Heritage Park can also be interesting.... it depends on what you're into.

Take a trip just out of town sometime at night (midnight or later) and you could see the Northern Lights. They were pretty spectacular the other night.

When exactly are you coming to town?

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

ACB777,

July 30th is too early, as I'm not and he's not off that Friday.

I'll be in Alberta the first week of august. Looking forward to my holidays...

There aren't any tango fare flights available on AC from YOW-YYC. However, on August 4 (Wednesday), there is a flight one way available for $280. On the way back the next week you should be able to get a Tango flight for about $250.
Another alternative is to travel on points if you have enough points.

Problem solved! Actually, I wasn't looking for a deal, I already have my tickets. It was for my travel companion. He's coming... on SG.
