Is United really RISING?

I always read United's slogans and advertising about how they are rising and so on, I can't understand that. I'v flown on several B777 and B757 flights and what they offered was all but no good service.
It is a fact that United doesn't show any information about the flight and doesn't show a flight path on a map as all the other carriers do. Or is there any other poor airline that cannot afford (or just doesn't want to offer) such a service?
To that the interiour cabin was in bad shape (especially video screens and control pads) , although the B777 aircraft was just two years old at that point of time. It looked like cabin of an airliner more than seven years in service without any care.
And they called that inflight entertainment individual entertainment...six boring channels...ever heard about Krisworld abord SIA?
Leg room abord the B777 is really ok, but next time I try to avoid the B757, what a mass transport...the Airbus A320-family is much more sopacious!

Well that's how UA impressed me. What do you think about the topic?

HICAGO, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines' total scheduled revenue passenger miles (RPMs) increased 3.8 percent
in December vs. the comparable month in 1997 while total scheduled available seat miles were up 3.6 percent from a year ago.

``During December our Pacific load factor increased nearly five points to 72.3 percent compared to a year ago,'' said James E.
Goodwin, United's president and chief operating officer. ``Our U.S. domestic traffic remains healthy, rising 7.2 percent in
December compared to the same month a year earlier.'

I've flown United many times, on 777's, 767's, 757s', A320's, 727's and the 737 shuttle service. Never have had a complaint about service or the condition of the planes--I was impressed by the entertainment system on the 777 myself. Maybe not top notch quality found on some international carriers but not bad.

And they bonus points for Starbucks coffee service too.

I have flown on United 727s, 737s, and 757s. It has always been top notch service. As for the A320 being more spacious, the 757 is a larger aircraft. I thouroughly enjoyed my 757 flight from EWR to SFO. Way to go for their 747-400s and the Pacific growth.

Well, I have flown on every UA aircraft except for the A319, A320, B767-200, and DC-10. Every once in a while there was something that I didn't like (such as a freaky FA or that 741 flight I was on, but I have already told about that). But, usually their service was great, and I belive that I will continue to fly on them until I have flown with every type in their fleet, then I will probably start working on Delta.

The A320 has a wider fuselage then the 757, therefore it is more spacious; yes the 757 is longer then the A320, but what matters from a passenger's point of view is the width more then the length.

I disagree with you. I like UA and think they are a very good airline. My Grandma had the best flight from LHR to LAX the other year and now all she flies is UA.

Let me do some math here. The A-320 is 3 inches wider or at least that was the number quoted on an earlier post some time ago. The A320 is a six across airliners. Assuming that you don't give any of that extra three inches to the aslie you are getting a whole extra half an inch! I personally don't think I noticed that extra half and inch when I last took an A-320 trip. What I did notice was the pitch of the seats. I am not a big fan of knocking my knees against the seat in front of me. I always try to get an exit row for the extra knee space. And one other point about seat pitch. That is controled by the airlines not the manufactures. The makers only decide what is the maximum number of people the plane can carry the airlines decide if the want to impove service by not having all of the seats or if they want to make the thing a flying sardine can.

The Airbus did seem like an ok flying aircraft but the seats that America West had installed.......Did anybody else notice they felt like they had a steel bar running right down the middle of them(Left to right not front to back)?? The seats wheren't comfertable not the airplane.

Fuselage width

The A320 is 12 ft. 11 in. wide, while the 757 is 12 ft. 4 in. wide. It's really not that much when you spread it over all six rows and the aisle. Is it enought to be noticeable? Maybe to some, but I wasn't able to really tell a difference between it and the Boeing narrowbodies when it came down to the seats.

The main thing that I noticed was that the A320 did "look" wider than the Boeings because of the shape of the overhead bins. On the Airbus, the bins canted inward while the ones that they have fitted to the Boeings cant outward toward the edges. The ones on the Airbus were a little smaller that what I was used to on the Boeing planes. More ceiling space on the Airbus was exposed, so it looked wider. In my opinion, that doesn't make up for the fearfully small windows that they install on the Airbus. I had to sit on the aisle and I felt claustrobhobic during the flight because I never got the opportunity to see out of the plane.

I have no complaint at all to make. I think United is a very good airline, right aviator-ua?
With United, I've been on all the Boeings except the 777, I thought all of them were comfortable. I enjoyed all the flights. I've never been on an A320 so I can't say anything about the comfort, but I don't think it appears much wider than a Boeing narrowbody. I usually fly American but I've been on United quite a few times. The agents and flight attendants always were friendly with me, the food is always good and the entertainment system is nice as it is on all major airlines. Someone who works with me in my office flew last summer United transatlantic, he said he was delighted with the service on board and the entertainment system, he was on a B767-300ER (yes, the one that you fly, aviator-ua).
One thing that United has that other airlines don't have is the possibility to listen to live pilot/ATC communications, it's fun. Well you can't get it on all flights, but on some flights you can. There are no headsets on the 737-200, that makes sense because it's an old aircraft that's gonna be gone next year (American has no headsets on their 727's).

The Answer - Yes. Everytime I've flown them, the service has been top notch. And you even get to listen to cockpit communications, too.

I have done a couple of transatlantic stints in Business Class. Of BA, Virgin, Lufthansa and UA, all of which I sampled, UA's food was the best by far.

The counter staff and Red Carpet Room personnel in Frankfurt are fantastic.

My main complaint was indifferent flight attendants -- not at all like Virgin.

For years I had avoided United because their service was nowhere near Delta's. But a couple of weeks ago, I flew on United and was very impressed. I was on four of their flights and thoroughly enjoyed them all. I want to make particular mention of Flight 57, IAD to LAX, on Christmas Day. The DC-10 was imaculate, not like an aircraft about to be retired. The flight attendants were wonderful, especially one older lady who had a perpetual smile on her face and seemed genuinely happy to spend her Christmas day with her passengers. I wish I had gotten her name, because I would like United to know about someone so dedicated working for them. She seemed like someone I would like to have for a grandmother. Even though it was announced that the flight was short two flight attendants due to sickness, she didn't seem hurried and took the time to talk to passengers who engaged her in conversation. She was wearing an airplane pin, and it looked like a DC-7 to me, and when I asked her about it, she took the time to tell me the story about how and when she got it. I told her that it was my first United flight in years, but because of the outstanding service on flight 57, I would come back.

Here's what I have to say. You try and keep a B777 in tip-top shape when you have little 2 year olds and such trying their hardest to break thae things. Notice how only 1 other airline even has these? And this is the ONLY airliner that even has these except the 747! So it was experimental realy! And i do have to say, the 757 ids pretty bad, but UA has had the #1 vote in in-flight food and entertainment, and also got #2 in best fleet! Considering the only great plane we don't and are not allowed to have i belive is the concord!

Ok, lets see here, our only's...
-1 of the 2 who has the B777 in the USA
-The only airline which offers cockpit on the radio
-The only airline serving Starbucks
-The only airline serving McDonallds
-the only airline which has Quickstop in LHR
-The only airline serving over 9 choicces of meals (call ahead)

Is that enough for you? Anyway, our profits are going way up, so I belive there is nothing wrong with our service!

It's the world's largest airline!!

Hey! Try flying any other US airline and you will see how much better United is. Try no entertainment no NW, no airshow or individual systems on DL, AA, CO, US etc. Try crappy food on DL, AA, CO, and especially NW. (I love Shiela Lukins food on UA!) United has more than 3x the widebodies as Continental and more than 50% than AA, DL, etc. UA is in the process of getting a total of 51 747-400s, 52 777s, and 56 767s. All these a/c are gonna be equipped with airshow and individual entertainment.
However, I do agree that United needs to take care of its planes much better. Yes, I was on a 777 sfo-lhr and the interor looked 10 years old even though the plane was only 1 or 2.
Oh and one more thing. UNITED IS NOT POOR! They are the largest and most profitable airline in the world. 1.5 Billion Dollars in profits! UNITED WILL ALWAYS RISE!

Areoflot is the biggest airline in the world with some 2000 planes. I think BA is bigger then UA wit all there new orders.

These numbers are estimated and not 100% but close!

What about the aircraft that will be withdrawn from BA during the time period? BA's 737-200s will be retired once the A320s get there. The 737-400s will continue on though.

Aeroflot was broken up when the USSR dismantled and it is not a *much* smaller airline. BA has orders only for abot 70 a320, the others are options. BA does not have all those aircraft, maybe in their whole life as a company, but not currently. Check JP airline fleets -- BA only has around 300 aircraft vs. UA's 600 or even AA's 640. But I was saying UA was the largest because of the standard of airlien size measurement, RPMs.
