DL 767-400 F/C

Wed Jul 28, 2004 6:40 pm

Hello to all....

This is my first time posting to A.net, granted I've been following for a few months.

At any rate, I am due to fly DL within the next few weeks, LAX-ATL on DL F/C in a 767-400.

I wanted to ask if anybody on here has flown the DL F/C transcontinental product on a 767-400, and if so, what was your experience? I've read the reports on SeatGuru, and they really don't give the DL 767-400 F/C product a good rating. Regardless of that, I wanted to hear personal accounts of those who have flown the DL 767-400 F/C and what the experience was like. By 'experience', I am referring to the regular stuff, such as seat comfort, F/A level of professionalism, IFE, and SPECIFICALLY leg room (Since I am a tall person-- 6'4).

I fly a lot, but this will be my first time flying DL, typically I fly on AA, but since DL had the best deal on F/C (Non-stop) on the LAX-ATL route, I figured, 'what the heck, why not?'.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi BruinSkiiz,

Welcome to A.net  Big thumbs up I haven't flown DL 764 in FC, but I have flown on the DL 763 which is identical I think. It was very comfortable, but then again I'm not 6'4". I do remember there being lots of leg room however. DL F/A are very kind and considerate, but I think you will find that throught the industry especially if traveling FC.

Hey BruinSkiiz-

I have flown on the 764 in F/C a few times and, to be honest, it's nothing spectacular. If you can, I'd suggest a bulkhead seat (3AB, 1CD or 2EF) or perhaps Row 7E or 7F. The seats are relatively narrow (18.5") and by the time you take out the PTV, there is very little room for much else. I actually find the pitch on the 763-domestic in F to be even better. The best, however, is if you can get BusinessElite on the 763-Int'l. These a/c still fly LAX-ATL about 3x a day currently.

All in all, your experience will be better than in coach, but not by much I'm afraid. I'm 6'0 and find it cramped -- at 6'4, you best book a bulkhead or at least and aisle seat!

As far as flight attendant professionalism, etc, DL has always been the best and I've never really had a bad experience - especially in F.

Let me know if you have any more questions!!

The 764 is meant to be a domestic replacement for the Tristar. There are many seats in F, with little foot rests. Not impressive but not bad. The 767-300 Intercontinentals are nice with the Biz-Elite seats...quite a bit of seat pitch in there. I prefer the layout on the -300s, domestic an int'l compared to the -400.

Tasha-- Thanks for the input!

N808DE-- Thanks for the info. It's Ironic that you brought up the 763 Business Elite product on DL, because the 2 DL flights 'prior to' and 'after mine' also heading to ATL are on 763s. The ONLY reason I chose this specific flight was because of the aircraft. Silly me to think that a bigger plane equated into more comfort, especially up in F/C  Smile/happy/getting dizzy .

With regard to the 764 I am scheduled on, I did choose seat 7F, as per SeatGuru's recommendation. However, my ticket is fully refundable, so I probably will switch over to BizElite on the 763, because seat comfort and leg room are THE ONLY reason I am flying DL F/C LAX-ATL. I couldn't care less about the food, as I seldom eat when I'm flying lol.

Moreover, as of late, I have been rather unhappy with AA's F/C service, and was hoping to switch airlines to DL, but I guess I'll have to try it out first, prior to deciding.

What is your preference when flying F/C transcon? Again, thanks for your informative post!

DC-10inLB -- Thanks for the info. So you also agree that they layout and overall comfort on the -300s bests that of the -400s?

Welcome to Airliners.net!

As mentioned, the 764 is a domestic aircraft, and a high-tourist one for that (it has more seats than the 777). I have, however, heard some great trip reports about ATL-LAX on the 777.

In any event, enjoy your flight.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Atleast the 764's have brand new interiors and PTV's. In the future, try to get an international configed 763ER or the daily 777. These will have the BusinessElite seats.

SafetyDude-- I have read that DL did a horrible job configuring the seating for the 764s. Wasnt aware that it included F/C lol. Thanks for the input. I'll have a trip report with pics after the trip.

COEWR-- When you alluded to the 'daily 777', were you refering to DL? If so, I didn't see any 777s flying the LAX-ATL, perhaps they run on specific days of the week?

I hate to jump in just to say "Me too", but these comments are on target. The BizElite -300s have the most legroom, followed by the 767-300 domestics with 41-42" pitch in F. The pitch in the 767-400s is 39", which is standard First, but for some reason it seems crowded. The center console, housing the PTVs, is intrusive, and make the seats narrower. Save your -400 experience for ATL-Florida, or CO BusinessFirst, which is supposed to be great.

Hey Bruin Skiiz -

I think you're wise to change flights. I mean the B764 is nice and all, but nothing F/C-wise compares to BizElite. Definitely make sure, however, that the flight you change to has BizElite and it not a domestic B763.

I can tell you that the following flights are scheduled to have BizElite (ATL-LAX):
DL175 // DL181 // DL179.

Let me know if you have any other questions as I've done about 8 trips in B/E.

What date are you actually flying on?

Hey N808DE--- Thanks for your input. As of this morning, I have rescheduled my flights to fly DL Biz Elite both LAX-ATL and ATL-LAX . On the DL site it said these were B763.... so I am hoping they are.

I head to Atlanta in 2 days, (Aug 11) on Flight 174 and returning (Sept 1) on Flight 175. For both I have window seats, definitely not in Row 1 (Because of overhead bin space).

Please let me know if such decision was wise!

Sounds like you picked the right flights! Good work.

Window seats in Biz are fine. You may have to climb over your seatmate only if they, and the person in front, are fully reclined. But, at least you wont have to ask them to get up to let you out!

I, personally, prefer the center seats (C and E) b/c its better access to the aisle. But, the window seats are good for the view. Let me know how it goes and what you think afterwards!

hmm, well according to delta.com the seat pitch is (shockingly) low for a first/biz product!

delta.com shows a pitch of 39" on the 764, and either 60" or 40" on the 763 dependent on the configuration!
