HP Flight Diversion

Thu Jul 29, 2004 9:54 am

America West flight 374, yesterday July 27, from Toronto to Las Vegas was diverted to Denver. This is confirmed. The captain of the Airbus 320, diverted the flight when it was discovered that someone may have been trying to gain access to the flight deck through the forward lavatory. Upon arrival in Denver, the TSA and FBI searched the plane and questioned suspicious passengers for 3 hours. The flight finally arrived in Las Vegas at 1:49am (scheduled to arrive at 10:52pm), almost 3 hours late. The flight continued to Oakland at 3:45am (scheduled to depart at 11:59pm), 3 hours 46 minutes late.

Thought I would share this, and find out if anyone had more info.

Regards,
Jack

Who cares how late they were! Good to hear that the crew was alert and handled the matter accordingly. Thanks Jack for the info!

Thanks again!

I can't find anything on the AWA website about this story. Searched news sources for Toronto, Las Vegas, Denver and Phoenix, even CNN. Not a mention anywhere. Anyone got a credible source?

I'm pretty sure if it happened HP would not want it out all over the news.

i thought something was weird about this flight, my friend was coming home from toronto, lives in ajax and was on the flight, we were waiting in phx to pick her up, and she never arrived. agents were acting very weird about this, called the hp line, they acted weird, called the hp elite line, which was closed, got another hp agent, and explained, hey, i am hp elite, i am not dumb, something was going on, and all we were told, hp flight --- diverted for "security reasons." that told it all. we drove back up to prc, and about 4am, we finally heard from our friend, she said an "interesting" pax was in the forward lav, for quite some time, noises were heard, she, in F, only saw the f/a acting quite strange, then numerous dings over in the intercom, (f/a to cockpit probably and back) some time later, no announcement, felt a gradual descent, we are all pilots, so a descent a lil early was noticable, and a 10000 ding, and by the time, she knew they werent there yet, and then short final, pilot announced an arrival into denver. no other comm not to stir the pax, and then they sat in denver for a while. very weird situation she said, the crew couldnt say much to try not to stir the pax, authorities waited for them in denver
