Girl Wants To Become A Air Hostess

Thu Jul 29, 2004 7:35 pm

This girl I know wants to be come an air hostess.
So I thought I'd check here for some information.
Are KLM recruting cabin crew on a regular basis or is it really difficult to get int here. What other might be recruiting dutch cabin crew?

Im worried that she might be too tall. 1.79 metres. is that too tall?

Thanks

I think the height is fine. I READ that it is from 1.65 meters to 1.80 meters so she is just under the limit.

KLM Is not recruiting at this moment, However KLM cityhopper was looking for Dutch F/A about 1 month ago, but I am not sure if they still are.

you may want to look at the KLM website.

Try Emirates, Gulf Air and Qatar Airways, they dont serve AMS but hire crew from all corners of the world, Kuwait Airways and Oman Air also hire foreign cabin crew, possibly Air Arabia and even PIA!!!, yes PIA have hired foreign crew in the past from Europe(France, Germany), Asia(Japan,Uzbekistan) and apprently Africa(Black) and they they may still be doing so.

Airmale I find your comments about African airlines only empolying black people rather arrogant, and simple minded.

Airlines such as SAA, BA, Natiownide, 1Time, Kulula to mention a few employe FA's on there ability and not according to the pigment they have in their skin.

Most African airlines arn't empolying people as they are more often than not down sizing or closing up shop, on the rare occassion they do employe people they are most times employed on merit. Eg. ex SAA pilots being employed for Kenya Airlines.

My comment was not arrogant, I was referring to PIA having atleast one Black African stewardess according to a source at another forum.

Read before you post again next time.

I have seen some FAs that are six feet tall, so she should be fine. However, there are limitations on some planes, as FAs need to be able to stand up in them without bumping their heads.  Laugh out loud

Imonti:

You obviously didn't take the time to read carefully Airmale's post. He made no statement even close to what you are stating. Read it again.

Imonti.....these days if you are white you have no chance as a cabin attendant with SAA. They have an aggressive affirmative action policy and it shows in the makeup of most crews.

Zweed, you might want to ask whether she wouldn't mind working overseas for a period of time - BA, BMI, easyJet are all recruiting for FAs, many of whom are from other European countries.

I'm assuming she speaks fluent English - speaking fluent Dutch would certainly be an asset, and after a few months/year she could always come back to apply for KLM mainline (when they start recruiting again).

Gulf Air & Qatar Airways are recruiting, Emirates have apparently stopped recruiting until next year.

regards

After re-reading it I realise I miss read it and understood it incorrectly. For which I apologise.

Andz, some of the biggest out cries about that policy that has been persued have been black people stating that it is rubbish and people must be employed on merit, I stand for correction but I do believe that the majority of saa staff are white, barring cleaners etc. Weather something is done is another question. But watch out saa, big pooh is on its way, which could lead to an end of aa at SAA.

Imonti my wife has been an employee of SAA longer than you have been alive, she works in flight operations for one of the most senior pilots in the airline, I have seen the changes myself, believe me the days of white domination in SAA are long gone. True, some of the AA appointments at SAA have been pure window dressing but you can't do that with flight deck crew, however most of the standards that were applied to cabin crew applicants in the old days (height, weight, proportion, age etc) have been dropped as being "discriminatory"

Try Martinair, they are currently hiring at MIA...so safe to bet they are prob hiring at AMS. As you know, KLM is pulling out of MIA and Martinair will be doing 14x weekly to MIA, maybe they need some F/A's ??!?! who knows...

Are the majority of employees at SAA white or black and im not talking about cleaners etc? Or to be more specific are the majority of pilots and FA white or black? You did illustrate that, although they majority is white.

Secondly every CEO so far has been white, and of which the most successful in the history of SAA has been Moolman, after some of the recent stints, of Mr.Andrews, Mr.Viljoen etc one can only wonder that maybe it is "white incompatency" or maybe just plain uselesness that is leading to saa making record breaking losses. So maybe a black guy will turn it around, although I doubt that SAA can successfully be run by any one, unless they are entitled to not have to jump through hopes to get a decision passed and carried through.

Is the term "Air Hostess" still used around the world? How is it in other languages? In American English, the professional title is "Flight Attendant," which is not gender specific and serves to inform that they are in the cabin first and foremost for flight safety and not to play hostess.
