Connecting In ATL

Fri Jul 30, 2004 2:32 pm

OK Folks.
1st of all, thanks for all the help with the NW 1st Class Thread. I'm really looking forward to that trip.

BUT FIRST

This Sunday, my family and I are flying to SJU to go on a cruise and we are flying DL and connecting in ATL

I would like some opinions:

Here's the flight schedule for the outbound leg:

DL606
Dep OMA 7:00AM
Arr ATL 10:09AM
Aircraft is 732

DL 464
Dep ATL 11:42AM
Arr SJU 3:18PM
Aircraft is 752 (Regular DL, No Song)

Do you think we can make DL464?
Assuming no delays in OMA?

Most definatly, there is more then enough time for the connection. You will probably have to take the people mover to another terminal but that dosen't take that long either.

Damn, I sure hope so!

I've never been to ATL, but I will be connecting there this October, with 75 minutes between flights. I am curious as well as to how feasible this will be.

Assuming there are no delays, you will make it with more than enough time to spare. I just recommend you go to the concourse you will be departing from, as I do not recommend exploring. It takes 11 seconds to get from 1 concourse to another VIA the people mover, so you have More than enough time. Again, Assuming there are no delays

More than enough time! You could do it in 20 min if you had to, and assuming the people mover is working.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I have made connections at ATL between different concourses in about 30 minutes, no sweat. Even had time to hit the restroom and grab a sandwich! I love that inter-terminal people mover.

I can tell you that you can make a connection, from one terminal to another one, in 7 minutes.  Big grin

Even if it's busy at ATL, you'll have more than enough time. No need to worry!

I've made a connection in about 25 minutes in ATL (from doors open to pushback)...no problem whatsoever.

I would tend to believe the OMA flight would arrive on Concourse B, and the SJU flight will probably leave A (or T, but that is less likely), so you will probably have a terminal change.

Since you've got an hour and a half, you might want to explore the airport a little. When I have arrived at that hour, I normally head over to Concourse E (the international concourse), as SAA has an A340-600, and Delta has some 777s, and KE has the 777 in from ICN at 1050...could make for some interesting spotting.

Once you are in the terminal, you can connect from any point in the ATL airport to any other in no more than 20 minutes. The farthest possible connection is a T gate to an E concourse gate and 20 minutes (though cutting it close) will get you there assuming everyone is mobile.

Atlanta has centralized security coming in from ticketing into the T gates so if you're connecting, you don't have to deal security as you're moving from concourse to concourse.

If you stay inside the terminal area, you will be fine.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Yea I also have never been in ATL and I will be connecting through there on Aug 3 from BWI on my way to FLL. I only have one hour. But I'm not as worried because not long ago, my grandmother did it with no problem. If she can do it, it should be a breeze for me.

Getting through ATL is a piece of cake when you're connecting. Long lines, etc. really only occur for originating passengers checking in and going through security.

The past 3 days Flight 606 has arrived at B19, and 464 has departed out of A6. Your connection time is more than enough. You'll probably even be able to stop at Chili's for a burger!

If you're in B concourse, stop at the Wall Street Deli - the Chill's stuff is just wrong.

I have never connected at ATL, but I have flown out of there often. I'm a fast walker and it will normally take me about 10 minutes from security to gate T1 and 3 mins from security to the middle of A concourse (both without people mover)! I hardly ever take the people mover. From my expirence I believe one could walk from terminal to E in about 10 mins (with or without the moving walkways).

I have taken the people mover twice...it is really fast and efficiant if you think your in a real hurry.

I think that the OMA flight will go into D or B and the SJU out of T, A, or E...
usually, the gates are the same, so here are todays:
arrivals from OMA: B:1 C:1 D:1
departures to SJU:T:1 A:2 E:1
I've been in all except E. I don't like T gates because you have to walk A LONG way, espically to gates T-1 to T-4. There are good places to see, including laptop lane, and they used to have a history of DL/art exibit. I have no idea if its still there or not. There are also great food stands such as Miami Subs and Starbucks! A has a good food court with every food possible. Also, there is a Chilis Too! B has a Fridays, I think. D is nothing! Just an afterthought in my opinion.

An hour and a half?

You must be paranoid!

Please seek professional help if you cannot make this connection. You'll probably get bored waiting for your flight to SJU.

It only sucks for us originating in Atl. Connecting is very easy and NO security lines to go through (unless you head back out into the main terminal). You'll have enough time to tour each concourse if you want. Go to D concourse (or was it C?) to watch arrivals and departures since it has windows on the end overlooking the runways. The SA A346 goes out around 10:45 on runway 9/27 which is on the southside of the airport. If you're at the south end of concourse D, then you will see it barrelling down the runway right in front of you. It's a pretty cool sight to see.

Ssides is right. If your arriving flight arrives on time and you head straight to your departure gate, you'll get very bored. It should take you no more than 20 minutes gate to gate.
