Change Of Aircraft BA Why?

Fri Jul 30, 2004 8:20 pm

I booked my trip to DTW back in October last year, this time I'd been looking forward to travelling on my first 777 to DTW, today by chance I was looking at Amadeus and just input the flights I was travelling on to see what the availability was like as I now there going to be busy with all us European Ryder Cup supporters. What do I find they have changed the aircraft to a 767 gutted.
I was upgraded the other week for my return leg for free (out of the Blue I add) and given a new booking ref (still on 777), this I instantly checked and printed still showing that I was due to get in at 15:50 and my seats were 30J & K.
Now where am I, my booking info has changed to arrive 16:15 but seats still 30J & K and I know its a 767.
Why would they change aircraft like that and does anyone have a BA seating Plan for a 767 as there is nothing on the BA website.

It could be that not many seats had been sold on these 2 flights and they felt there was no need to use a 777 on the 2 flights, save money by sending a 767 instead!

I can understand your disappointment but you should think yourself lucky that you are at least still flying with the same airline.

A few years ago some friends were booked to fly BA from LGW to the Bahamas. They were looking forward to the trip and believed that they would be flying on a BA 747. When we checked them in at Gatwick, they were dismayed to be told that despite booking BA and paying BA's fares they were flying on a Flying Colours 757 - seems that BA subcontracted this particular flight out!

Another friend was so annoyed with CO that he refused to use them again. He booked his next flight with Virgin only to find it was CO when checking in - seems like he had never heard of code shares.

I should also be grateful that its probably a 2-3-2 setup and I only have to bother the wife every 15 minutes for another turn of the cabin.
Any joy with layouts I'm just presuming its a 2-3-2.

Thats a new one on me, at that time several flights were opeated to the carribean using our T7's but crewed with Flying Colours and then JMC Cabin crew. The T7's were operated in a high density config, and as a result of some bad customer feedback the agreement which i believe was called AMC within BA was terminated around 2 years ago.

I would be very surprised if we subbed a mainline T7 for a charter 757, perhaps this was bookded through a tour operator who then altered the reservation onto the FCL flight?, I dont know just guessing but i find it very hard to believe if otherwise

Ryan

That's very frustrating. The 777 is far better than the longhaul 767.

The seat maps are at BA.com. They are indeed 2-3-2. Sadly no PTV etc. However, the advantage of the 767 is no WTP, so if you get an upgrade you will go straight to Club...

Ok, totally out of the topic here but seeing this is about BA, i'll take a chance and throw my question for whoever might know:

Why isn't BA News online? Weren't they at www.banews.co.uk
'Place your ad here'. Only $9.95 per post made.

Burg400:

Did you ask for an upgrade since the aircraft was changed? Is it common for BA to give upgrade if aircraft is downgraded?

Venezuela747, I was trying to buy an upgrade to WTP a week before they called me and offered me a free upgrade for the return because the 3 calls I made all resulted in no one being able to help. (I am not complaining in any way,and it's gonna feel like 1st class)
It appears now that the flight I'm due to is now a 2 class setup on a 767, or There a lot of F class pax out there that have booked up 2 weeks worth of flights, someone explain that away.

Interestingly, you haven't given your travel dates. If you provide them, it would be easier to attempt to answer your question.

It's not so 'simple' as just changing from 777 to 767, it all depends on over what period of time. Changing it for just one day means that there will be at least two postioning crews taking up valuable pax space, etc!

The dates in question are 11th sept, I have noticed that it changes from 777 to 767 then back to 777 midweek but its not consistent across the weeks.

Also right now the 767's are a three class configuration, First, Business and Coach, soon to be reconfigured to eliminate first, and add a WTP cabin.

Without talking to Ops, there is little to be added . . .

There are three periods of 767 ops, but a random availability reflects loads suitable to the aircraft, so perhaps a good decision to change a/c - but it could be for aircraft servicing as the first and last of the 767 ops fall into a seven and an eight day cycle.

From a random look, all the 767s on LHRDTWLHR are in three class J, WT+, WT, with no F. Your seats 30JK are more 'cozy' on the 767 as the config is 2-3-2, so you'll be sitting in a pair. By the sound of it, you'll have the benefit of the upgrade on your return, which must be some consolation.

You can always 'Check My Trip' by going to https://www.checkmytrip.com/ITN/ItinerarySummaryServlet
Just insert your PNR and surname and it will give you the current status of your booking.

Bon Voyages!
