MIA/FLL/PBI Diversions

Mon Aug 02, 2004 10:16 am

Looks like the crappy weather has caused some diversions...looking at flightcomm, here is what I've got:

FLL:
FL 2303 (Operated by Miami Air Intl) from ATL diverted to MIA (Arrived at 7:46pm at FLL instead of scheduled 4:50pm)

ATA flight 646 from MDW diverted to SRQ (Arrived at SRQ at 6:31pm, departed at 7:06pm, and arrived at FLL at 8:14pm)

AA (as if they didn't already have enough problems!) flight 1632 from DFW diverted to PBI...arrived at 7:22pm

CO flight 1548 from PHX via IAH diverted to PBI (estimated to arrive at 8:35pm from the scheduled 5:09pm)

DL 514 fro DFW diverted to PBI (arrived at 8:05pm, interestingly enough it was scheduled for 5:08pm, anyone else find that humerous)...2 notes here, it appears to be an equipment change to MD90, so at least they had movies...also, it left at 6:59pm from PBI...probably the longest PBI-FLL flight ever!

Pan Am 8 from Aguadilla diverted to MIA (no furth info given)

WN 128 from BWI diverted to PBI (no further info given)

US flight 1247 from CLT diverted to MIA (arribed at 7:54pm)

i'm going to post these now and add any more or any from MIA or PBI.

I thought the weather here in MCO was bad today. Looks like So. Florida is getting alot worst than what we got.

Yes, they've had it quite rough to our south tonight. At one point, FLL was reporting a 330+ minute departure delay. We only took one diversion tonight and that was the Miami Air 738 that has been mentioned. It's not for lack of effort on that crew's part. They held for as long as they possibly could. Couple FLL and MIA's delays with GDP's for IAD, PHL, LGA, and EWR....and you've got a recipe for a real mess.

yea, the weather has been pretty bad here, bad storms around 1pm here (suprised that didn't cause diversions) and then it opened up again really! But we've had rain all day, can't tell if its coming down still, but my pool is overflowed and my grass if a puddle, not cool!

I won't say I'm suprised about the diversions, in fact, I am not at all. However, I am suprised that they went to PBI and MIA. Is the weather better there? I think this is a Tropical Depression over the whole state, so they all msot be bad

STill checeking for more diversions...a note: many delays from AA and US (obviously), but also from the weather. This is one day I'd admit, I'm glad I don't work for the Airlines! Seriously, visibilty was almost at 0 on the roads here! Yuck!

My mom flew FLL/DFW on AA today and the flight was delayed about
7hr 30min. They sat on the runway for about 4hours then had to come
back to the terminal to refuel but couldnt get a gate because they were
all full. Very Nasty weather here today.

We didnt get a drop in Daytona. Ormond Beach and Port Orange both got it, but other than that brief downpour yesterday Daytona Beach hasn't gotten shit for 2 weeks. Send your diversions to us, it would be nice to see something other than Delta MD-80s, CRJs and COEX ERJs and a ton of Cessnas

I can almost picture what AA's staff is thinking right now:

"August first, 2004. A day which will live in infamy......Today our company was attacked by the computer glitch and bad weather Empire"

This seriously was not the day to be flying AA.

Eas at the beach today before it rained and a 764 flew right over my head and then turned left base for 27R. This afternoon they were coming from the southeast and turning due north right over my house then traveled 2 miles north to griffin road and turned on final for 9L.

Flairport:

do you happen to drive by FLL often? there was a Metro on wednesday near the hangars parallel to 595. It had an orange tail and blue cheatline very similar to the old Viasa, Id like to know what airline that was, I couldn't get back to check it out.

got some more diversions! This time, lets focus on MIA

AM 401 from CUN diverted to MCO (arrived at MIA at 9:45pm, 3 hours and change late!)

HP 558 from PHX diverted to TPA (arrived at MIA at 10:15pm, 2 hours 44 mins late)

AA 988 from SJO diverted to EYW (of all places) (estimated to arrive at 11:15pm, 6 hours 16 mins late! A combination f weather and the systems error!)

AA 68 from DFW diverted to TPA (est to arrive at 11:10pm, 5 hours 4 mins late!)

AA 2239 from RDU diverted to PBI (arr 9:51pm, 4 hours 32 mins late!)

AA 1341 from LGA diverted to MCO (arrived 10:06pm, 8 hours 19 mins late!)

AA 280 from LAX diverted to TPA (est to arr at 11:45pm...6 hours 30 mins late!)

AA 531 from ATL diverted to TPA est arr at 11:10pm 7 hours 26 mins late!)

AA 2035 from TPA XLD

American Egle 166 (AA 5166) diverted to FLL (arrived at 9:18pm, 4 hours 48 mins late)

American Eagle 490 (AA 4490) from BNA diverted to TPA (arrived 9:49pm, 4 hours 29 mins late)

American Eagle 830 from George Town (?) EYW, no more info available

ATA 826 from MDW diverted to SRQ (arrived at SRQ at 7:13pm..departing 8:40pm and arriving at 9:55pm, not sure of scheduled time of arrival)

Arrow Air (cargo) 542 from San Pedro Sula diverted to PBI, no more info available

DL 1255 from ATL diverted to SRQ (departed at 4:16 pmarrived at 6:35 at gate B5 at SRQ...2+ hours for that, must have been an interesting flight plan! and departed at 7:37pm from SRQ, arriving at 9:12pm...an hour at SRQ, and STLL an almost 2 hour flight to MIA...can't wait for the hellish stories from passengers)

Fedex 303 from MEM diverted to TPA (no further info available, but they're cargo, they run on whatever schedule they want!)

UA 1024 from YYC via ORD diverted to TPA (arr at TPA at 6:52pm, departed at 7:32pm, and arrived at 9:36pm.) I like how UA makes it seem like a normal stop:
Chicago, IL (ORD)
Sun, Aug 1
Scheduled: 1:20 PM
Actual: 2:16 PM
Reason: Schedule change due to Ramp Service
Terminal 1 Concourse C
Gate: C28
Tampa, FL (TPA)
Sun, Aug 1
Scheduled: 6:39 PM
Actual: 6:52 PM
Reason: Schedule change due to Ramp Service
Gate: --
Baggage claim: --

looks completely normal on their site!

thats it for MIA!
quick question, if you are diverted and your plane pulls up at the gate, are you allowed to deplane if they know you might be there for a while? (I understand if they don't know if we'll get up in 5 mins or not)

No, I don't drive by often, on account that I can't drive! I did go for my driving lesson yesterday! That was a blast, my first highway drive... I went down throught arrivals, right next to a DL 764 on the way to ATL, seemed about ready to push back. other than that, I saw a PanAm 727, but nothing else, since I needed to focus! I was pushing myself to stop looking at the planes! The airport itself is nice to drive through, although I'll admit, its a little scary driving through arrivals...espically after reading that it could collapse with too much weight! But the drive was fun and I learned driving skills, 2 +'s! TO answer your question, though, I did not see a Metro!

NJDevils in 03, I'm right off Griffin, in the landing path! So, those planes you see come right by me!

another MIA:

AA2488 from MBJ diverted to PBI (no other info given)

Living just north northwest of FLL I can tell you it was hellish today. They had planes going in every direction... Most very low under the storms getting pounded. At one point saw a Southwest 737 NG flying low just west of downtown heading due north through a fierce lightning storm. Saw the plane tip its wings twice real hard from my vantage point looking like it was trying to escape being hit by lightning. I know each time there was a bolt that looked very close the wings tipped.. That must have been some ride.. Glad my airport days are over. I am sure AA wont be back on tract for at least another day and a half due to the Off sked ops today. Poor Passengers.
I would hate to think what MIA look like ...Yuck

here in Key West we had a lot of props on the ground here, mainly American Eagle & Continental Connection flights. The jet diverts went to Boca Chica NAS, as they have a 10,000 foot runway.

the hotel I work at took about 35 rooms from stranded passengers for $89, compared to our normal walk-in rate of $129.00

It's just wierd going through the arrivals area, few cars...and also, it really does look really weighted down! Maybe its just my opinion, though.

EDIT: NEW DIVERSIONS
these popped up this morning for last nights flights!

AA730 from ORD diverted to PBI...delayed 2 hours from the start due to computers, but arrived at 9:17pm,5 hours 58 mins late

LOOK AT THIS:
AA2038 from DFW diverted to TPA...arrived at 8:55am, 14 hours 3 mins late! That's gonna hurt the on-time proformence! The funny thing, it left DFW as close to on time as possible, considering the AA situation!

I have to mention this: not a diversion, but AA 1960, secheduled to depart at 5:50pm left at 7:30am and arrived 13 hours 36 mins late at 9:59am

Also, we had a lot of after midnight arrivals here (other than the scheduled ones)
FL had 4...1 from BWI (12:42am) 2 from ATL (1:27am and 1:41am) and 1 from PHL (2:02am)
AA had 2...1 from LGA (1:17am) and 1 from DFW (1:36am)
ATA 640 from MDW arrived at 12:35am
Bahamasair 879 from NAS arrived at 312am!
CO had an IAH flight come in at 12:04am and an EWR come in at 12:25am
DL only had 1...from LGA at 2:41am (in addition to their scheduled)
B6 had a 1:01am from IAD, a 1:50am from JFK and a 1:51am from BOS
WN had 2 from TPA (12:39am and 1:22am) and 1 from MCO (1:34am)
NK has 1 from DEN at 12:54am and 1 from LGA at 2:00am
UA had 1 from IAD at 1:37am
US had 1 from PHL (12:21am) and 1 from IAD or DCA (whichever they hub at) at 12:37am

stupid internet problems...i had 1 more diversion, but couldn't post it in my last post!

UA 216 from ORD diverted to PBI due to "customer service" arrived at FLL 8:20pm, 5 hours 12 mins late!

looking at MIA: A lot of late "AArrivals"...basically right up unitil the AAM rush

UA had a 4:00am from IAD, about 3 hours 12 mins delayed/

Miamix707,
I drive by FLL twice a day usually on I-95. I try and spot anything
unusual so I will keep an eye out.
Last unusual aircraft was a 757 Business Jet had purple cheat line and
reggo N757BJ.

How is it possible for the AA SJO-MIA flight to be diverted to EYW?
CRJ's have enough restrictions taking off and landing there...how will a 738 or bigger be able to land there?

PS. THE WEATHER IS NASTY IN MIAMI STILL @ 2:30PM

I am going to warn now, it might be another one of those days! It just poored by my house, its over the airport now, the pilots are complaining....still cannot belive that some flights were delayed for over 13 hours! Why didn't they just cancel those flights? In the case of SJU, did they put passengers up? Also, what about in the diversion case? I hope its not another night like that tonight, AA was still running close to 2 hours late, so any change in weather is crucial for them!

While on the topic of overnight diversions:
AA 1219 from IAD departed aproximatly 4 hours late yesterday at 4:31pm, and arrived 18 hours 21 mins late at 9:39am after a diversion to JAX!

No sooner did I look online and find this:
NK 197...supposedly diverted to RSW...however, after looking at NKs site, i found no diversion of the flight!
I am listening, however, to a divation in action...i'll get the details as they become available!
And to add to the saga, the thunder and lightning have started and as I hear UA1400 from DEN on radio, they are doing visual 9L approaches! interesting!

maybe someone can help me out with this question....

this afternoon i drove by PBI and was delighted to see an AA 767 and an AA 757. usually AA has me stuck seeing MD-80's all the time.

i wasn't aware of any diversions this afternoon, even though the weather was crappy. so i was wondering...will AA substitute the MD-80's with a 763 or 757 if they have enough pissed off passengers waiting to get home?

I know an AA 757 went from PBI-MIA, it was the MBJ-MIA, but diverted to PBI and terminated there, according to flytecomm, at least.
