MP MIA-SJO 738 Service Begins 10/31

Wed Aug 04, 2004 5:31 am

Hi,

Does anyone know who will be flying this for them? I'm gonna take a guess and say Miami Air. Anybody have anything further?

Thanks.

Are you referring to Martinair (MP) ?? Are their 763 not going to continue anymore from MIA to SJO ?

Yes, Martinair's website http://www.martinair.com shows a 767 to MIA and then a 737-800 to SJO. Pax will have to clear customs in MIA anyway, so it will cost the same amount of time..

Yes KL911, and thanks. I saw the website info, too. Flew that route in May aboard this:

She looked fresh out of the paint hangar, and nice service, too. But then again, this might be fun to try....

In a recent check to the MP web page, don't show any B738 in their fleet. Are they going to lease some for this route?

Hi TACA,

I don't think they're adding them to the fleet. I think it's some sort of contract arrangement, and I'm just guessing at Miami Air based on the aircraft type, seat map, and of course, Miami. Miami Air (Z1) has also provided extra lift for AirTran lately.

Thanks, and again, these are all just guesses.

It is in fact Miami Air. The deal has been in the works for a while but was unaware that it was finalized. There is also some speculation that the dedicated aircraft will carry full Martinair colors.

Thanks for the information.

unfortunately MP web page is not one of the best in the industry. So maybe you can't find specific information you need at specific time.

Hey Falcon, thank you for that. Be interesting to see the 738's in MP colors, but I do love the new Miami Air scheme. Either way I look forward to another trip to San Jose.

Thanks.

Awesome news. Sort of makes up for the loss of Iberia. We lose one European narrowbody type and get another to join the AF A320.

Hey LX23, the AF A320 operates to Port Au Prince, Haiti then onto Martinique, Guadeloupe and French Guiana. At times we have also gotten an AF ERJ145 in AF colors and Air Caraibes colors.

AF's A320 operate to the Caribbean from MIA. They operate from Point a Pitre and Fort de France (via SDQ?), AFAIK.

No SDQ service. They operate an island hopper service: MIA-PAP-FDF-PTP-CAY. During the Haitain crisis earlier this year, they skipped the PAP stop for a short while.

Thanks for the clarification MAH4546,

The MIA-PAP route appears to be a very lucrative route for quite some airlines. I know for DCA (Ex ALM) it is a very important route that's always fully booked. DCA even had an aircraft based at MIA to fly this route Falcon Air also used to operate this flight for ALM in the past. But we all the bad condition DCA is at the moment, they are on the furge of bankrupcy, with an MD82 parked at MIA due to technical problems. Really sad, I must say (being from Curaçao myself). I guess this route is very profitable for AA as well, isn't it? Which other airlines operate the MIA-PAP route besides DCA, AF and AA? Are they the only airlines serving this route?

Extremely profitable. They also operate FLL-PAP. One of the reasons it rakes in money for AA is that, during most of the year, they only operate three daily MIA-PAP flights (two A300s and a 738), operating four only during the summer and winter break. They limit capacity incredibly on this route, and that drives up yield a lot. AF, AA, and K8 are the only airlines on the route right now. Air d'Ayiti also flies the route, but they currently can't because they don't have an aircraft because Aero Continente, who operates the flight, is not allowed to fly to the US. When that is solved, they should be back in the air, unless the look for someone else to fly the route.

Very profitable route, MIA-PAP. AA uses an A300-600R...big time money maker!

Back to the topic, any word if the 783 of MP will be in full MP livery?
