Airline Fuel Surcharges - How Bad Will It Get?

Thu Aug 05, 2004 3:26 am

With the daily new crude price records being set, it seems a good bet that airlines will only increase their fuel surcharges until some type of solution can be found....assuming there is one.

Is this a new reality that travellers will have to deal with for the foreseeable future?

Yes I believe it is, that way they can still advertise the lower fare and then hit you with a fuel surcharge.

Airlines have no choice but to pass the increased cost of fuel on to passengers. Apart from some opportune hedging, it is largely beyond their control.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

My guess would be at first $10.00 per one way per ticket, so roughly an additional $20.00 round trip. Only to go higher if fuel prices do.
