NW Airlink In Huntsville, What Was I On?

Fri Aug 06, 2004 4:51 am

Hey guys -

Kind of an odd question for ya. But I flew SEA-MEM-HSV in March or April of 1997, and the MEM-HSV section was operated by NW Airlink. I know the SEA-MEM section was a NW 752, but can anyone tell me which aircraft operated the MEM-HSV segment? I remember it was a Fokker of some type; does anyone know the exact type?

Thanks.
Steve

Mesaba used to have Fokker F28's. That is one case, however, i could have very well been a Saab 340

Nope.. I remember it distinctly being a Fokker. I was just a kid at the time and I giggled to no end about the word "Fokker".. huh huh.

It had to have been a saab or a jetstream operated by Express Airlines. Mesaba did not serve MEM until several years after the avros came into service. The F27s were never flown out of MEM. YOu were not on a Fokker, if you were flying a red tail.

They did...?? Really....??? You may wanna rethink that one.

Back in 1997 there where NO operators of 'Express' Fokkers anywhere in the US. American Airlines flew the F-100, Midway and Alaska may have still had their F-70's (but I'm not sure) and that was it.

I used to flew that route quite frequently.

It's porbably Arvo RJ. If you flew 4 engine high-winged plane, that's probably it.

I gurantee it was NOT an Avro. It was a prop-job, not a jet. And I'm pretty sure it was a Fokker guys. F-27 Friendship perhaps?

Sorry i meant F-27 and I did not specify it was 97, he said he was for sure on a Fokker, so that is what I guessed.

But anyway, here is a picture of the NW F27, http://www.airliners.net/open.file/058493/L/ sorry, my bad, my mistake.

There was 6 SF340's a day there in 98 until XJ took over with ARJ 3 times, then 4 times daily in 99 or 2000, forgot exactly when they began Memphis service, then 9E took the route back over with CRJ's to MEM and have added DTW CRJ service also. No F27's in Memphis then (almost 100% sure never)

I believe XJ took delivery of the F27's in 1983 along with Metroliners around the same time. The DH8 came along in 1991, while I believe the F27 the F27 was retired around the same time the DH8's came online while the Metroliners lasted until late 90's, as the DH8 and SWM's were retired when Saabs started coming online in 1996 and the Avros started I believe in mid 1997 or so.
