America West 757s To IAH

Fri Aug 06, 2004 11:38 pm

America West started 757 flights on the PHX-IAH run yesterday; do you all think that other carriers will add 757 or maybe 767 flights back to IAH besides Continental? It would be great to see some DL767s on the ATL runs with the codeshare and all.

In short, no. You won't see 767s on that route.

I flew through IAH on July 28th and noticed that America West had a 757 there. I don't know if that one was coming or going to LAS or PHX but I was wondering if there is really demand to fly a 757 there.

I used to work for hp. So I will offer 2 possibilities for a 75 to be in IAH.

It is not uncommon for hp to shift them around on routes. I have seen them get sifted around for temporary service on routes that get busy and then slow down. For a while during spring break this year we were sending them to DEN, ORD, SEA. I think SEA might still get one. I dont know, havent kept up with their Schedule.

HP will also Subsitute 75s for MX. When I was working gate A24 in PHX last spring, my 75 inbound from SAN got switched from a MSP destination to ABQ???!!. Well, N331AW (737-300) went down on MX. Instead of leaving 100 or less pax overnight in PHX. We sent N904AW to spend the night in ABQ. HP underuses there 75's. So their usually an extra one to spare for awhile with out effecting the schedule.

John.

in the long run, the new schedule started on 8/3, 757 were put on two iah runs for the next couple of months. dropped for the month of august were the daytime las-bur and las-ont, the las-iad run, and one other las flight was dumped for the month. 757 cities are now las, lax, san, sfo, jfk, bwi, msp, iah, dca, dfw, sjd, and i think i am missing one.

A few days ago I spoke to SOC and I was told that a lot of B737's are out of service due to either MX or their maintenance.

Drerx7- I'm always up for a good discussion.

Why would a 767 fly on that route? If AW is flying a 757 there on top of the normal 733 or A319 (not sure the schedule of AW in IAH) on top of CO's flights. Think of it this way: lets say AW has 6 flights daily to PHX, one of which is a 757, then CO has 6 flights all using a 733 (assuming its a 733 not a 738) thats 12 flights, daily. Thats alot of seats to be sold. If it was needed it would have been done by now. CO has 767s so they could do it if they see it necessary. AA subs a 763 once in a while to PHX, but none scheduled.

I don't have a source whatsoever. Just using my airplane logic  Big grin

true about the 737 in for heavy maint, that is why i was told the las-bur route i fly is gone until sept 1, as is ontario, and some other shorter rotations out of phx/las. a/c should be back by sept 1

Do you think that DL would ever switch from a 738 to a 752 on its ATL-HOU runs? Just wondering what others think.

I doubt Delta would switch to a 738 from ATL-HOU, but maybee ATL-IAH. ATL-HOU doesent generate enough pax. I dont think any airlines fly 75's into HOU, can anyone verify this?

Okay this little thread is spinning in all directions...

Regarding the HP 757 at IAH, this is now a twice daily scheduled flight from PHX with the Aug. 3rd schedule change.

Regarding CO's schedule to PHX from IAH, 1 ERJ, 3 738, 1 73G and a 757 during the week.

Delta767300ER, Delta already flies 737-800s ATL-HOU a whopping 6 times a day...plus 2 CRJ flights. Have to compete against Air Tran who flies 6 times a day with 717s. As for 757s into HOU, no scheduled flights at this time. Ryan, TransMeridian and Pace each flew 757s in for the Super Bowl and the Houston Texans flew DL 757s for their team charters out of there last year.

Continental wouldn't put any 767s on any of the aforementioned routes because they don't have enough to go around. Delta has used 757s on the IAH-ATL and IAH-DFW route in the past; with the codeshare possibilities -- enough traffic may be generated for DL to put a 767 or 757 on the IAH runs--especially since DL uses its 75s and 76s to cities like Jackson and Birmingham. They have put an MD90 on the IAH-SLC route replacing a 733. From what I understand is that coupled with the mx on HP 737s--they're IAH-PHX route routinely fills up; so perhaps the 757s are to meet capacity demands.
