Hey what's up?
There are quite a few people in this forum who are interested in American Airlines. We should have a separate forum exclusively for AA. Just kidding...
I'm also an American Airlines fan, you can tell by my username. I've been travelling with them for over ten years. American is a very good airline, it was at one time voted as the best carrier in the United States. It is a serious company that takes good care of its aircrafts and customers. They've always treated me right, I always had good service on board. I got upgraded many times, flight attendants and agents on the ground are real professionals. When I have a flight delayed or canceled, they always do everything to reschedule me and if they know in advance they call me. They are refurbishing their planes with the new seats which are comfortable and look nice. My only hope is that they will continue to fly to Brussels. Even if they don't codeshare with Sabena on the BRU-JFK flight, it's OK.
American closed its Raleigh and Nashville hubs back in 1994 because those weren't that profitable anymore, they were cutting flights out of these hubs and like one of you said they concentrated on developing Dallas and Chicago. Raleigh was taken over by the new airline Midway which has codeshare agreements with American. San Jose CA was also dropped but now that Reno Air has merged into American, it can be considered as a small hub. Who said they didn't have a SouthEastern hub? Of course they do, it's Miami. San Juan also is a hub in the Caribbean.
Their three main hubs are Dallas, Chicago and Miami. Dallas is the super megahub. Chicago is the gateway to Europe and Miami is the gateway to Latin America. New York (JFK, LGA and EWR all three together) is also considered as a hub, think about it from New York you can fly to many places domestic or international. Los Angeles isn't really a hub but there are quite a few flights, mainly to DFW, ORD and JFK.
