"Fly First Class" FLL-NAS

Mon Aug 09, 2004 10:07 pm

Fly First Class is the name of a public charter carrier operating an all-First Class (56 seat) 737-200 between Ft. Lauderdale and Nassau.

Any picks on how long this one will last?

Very intresting. I don't think it will last, but interesting to say the least. How they will offer all this first class service, when the plane is at crusing for only about 20-25 minutes is beyond me.

I wonder what the fares are like, though. The SFL-NAS market is extremely expensive. Average fares are in the $225-$250 range for the 300 mile flight, though Bahamasair usually offers fares in the high-$100s, despite the fact there are about 50 daily flights on four airlines. Airlines can charge it because it is a vital route for the Nassau community. Bahamians frequently travel to Miami to shop, see doctors, visit family, do business, and vacation, and it carries a lot of cargo. It is rare to find a Bahamaian resident who does has not visited South Florida. On the other side, Miamians flock to Nassau for weekend vacations all year long, and seem to have no problem paying the fares.

$300 FLL to NAS??? I'm ok with an AE ATR72 thank you very much! If it were out of MIA though, the prices could become comparable at times!

FLL-NAS fares are not lower than MIA-NAS. They are averaging about $240 round-trip. AA recently ran a fare sale on Ft. Lauderdale-Nassau. You could purchase a round-trip for $209, a bargain for that route. The American Eagle ATR you are okay with will cost you not much less. Neither will a Continental Connection 1900. The only airline that offers low fares on this route, as I mentioned earlier, is Bahamsair, and even those low fares are high for such a short route.

From experience, a long time ago, there used to be regular 'Gambling' flights between MIA and NAS. I wouldn't mind betting that the NAS Casinos may offer Vouchers to the punters, which might be given out as Boarding Cards on embarking in FLL, or even kickbacks to the airline for bringing in the punters!

I'm not a gambler, but some years ago a group of friends and I took an evening dinner cruise out of Miami, and we moored just outside the three mile zone, and let the fun commence! All I did was keep topping up my girl friend's purse with more playing money. Well, the Scotch was good!

Looks like they've picked up a really old 737-200 with a corporate layout from some bankrupt company who used to fly sports charters (maybe "Fly First Class" - which sounds suspiciously like an a.net username - won the damn thing in a poker game) and it's cheaper to fly it every day to Nassau and back with 56 occupied seats than it is to refurbish the aircraft. I don't know how long it'll last either, but with one old 737-200 (non-Adv, I bet), no-one's trying to be the next jetBlue either. This is a few old cowboys making a few bucks. Enjoy it while it lasts. I just hope the plane doesn't get wet.
