Two Hours At AVL, What Is There To Do

Tue Aug 10, 2004 5:52 am

Hi!

After bothering you guys here with numerous posts about various US airports for my next flight to the US, I have come to the conclusion of taking the following routing:
DUS-CDG-JFK-PHL-DTW-MSN-CVG-ATL-TPA-ATL-AVL-CVG-IAD-CDG-DUS.

Since I have been to every one of the airports except AVL and I will be spending nearly 2 hours there, I wanted to know how the airport is and if there is anythinng to do around there.

Thanks!

I can't believe that nobody on this board has been to AVL yet...

Does anybody know what it's like there?!

That's something to look forward to.

According to their website http://www.flyavl.com/index.php, they serve donuts, if you want to look under Customer Service.

And they have this:
"Berry Patch Café, Gifts and Lounge, is located in the main lobby. They are open Sunday through Friday from 5 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 5 a.m. - 7 p.m. You will find a nice selection of newspapers, magazines, books, gifts and an assortment of travel needs."

I see your coming to my town  Big grin MSN. MSN is one big mess to be honest, looks like your coming in on NW and leaving on DL. They are on complete opposite ends of the terminal which is a whole 5 minute walk! LOL. There is a ton of construction on the south end of the building and through-out the building. The building is parallel to the "big" runway 18/36 where most the commercial flights take off and land, so you'll have some nice views. You'll also see stuff on 14/32 (starts near VOR and ends near the hangers on the east end of the field) and 3/21 (starts opposite corner of hangers on the east side and comes right at Gate 1 (DLs gate). The east side of the field is straight out infront of you as your standing there.

Smcmac32msn, if you'd look at my profile, you'd get the idea, that I've been to MSN before.

 Big thumbs up

I flew into AVL in Dec 2000 when I went to visit Biltmore Estate. The inbound flt was a 737-300 from CLT (Dash 8 on the return). The airport is very small, but relatively new. The building is built out of stone and resembles a mountain cabin from what I recall. There is really nothing near the airport; Asheville is at least 20 minutes drive. Bitlmore is definitely worth a visit, but you'll need more than 2 hours.

It sure is getting better!

And I am not connecting in MSN but rather staying there for two weeks with some friends.
I hope that this winter will be cold. The last two were pretty disappointing.

Usher - You want cold? Today we hit a "record high" of 63*F. Well it was the lowest high temp for this day in Madison since records were kept. Where are the "global warming" experts now?  Big grin
