AeroMexico Starts New Chicago Serivice

Thu Feb 24, 2000 12:27 am

I just read that Aeromexico will take over taesa's route authority from Mexico city - Chicago service? Is this true? Can anyone confirm?

Who will take over the other routes such as Guadalajara-Chicago and Zacatecas-Chicago?

There is a very large ex-patriate community of people from Zacatecas and Guadalajara in Chicago so these routes would really make sense to AeroMexico. The only other airline flying such routes are Mexicana. I can't confirm wether American also flies these routes. Does anyone know??

I was told that Aeromexico had been considering flights into/out of ORD ofr some time. The problem was that CINTRA (AM's and MX's holding company) didn't want both carriers on the same route. But TAESA's demise probably contributed to the acceleration in implementing this new service.

I called AM today and they told me that the ORD flight was only going to be operated twice a week (as opposed to MXs and UAs daily flights to MEX).

The agent said that an equipment tyoe hadn't been selected yet. I assuming it would be a 757, or possibily one of their 767-200s because the flight is only two times a week.

AeroMexico flying to ORD? Great! Another new route. I think they'll use 757s, that's the most convenient type for a MEX-ORD.

Mexicana has a lot of flights out of ORD to cities such as: Mexico City, Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Zacatecas, Leon and Monterrey. Both AA and UA fly ORD-MEX, and AA has a Chicago-Los Cabos flight.

By the way, AeroMexico just started flying Atlanta-Cozumel with MD-80 aircraft.

Here is the link to the story regarding Aeromexico's new service to ORD:

I am glad to see this expansion, however the arrival and departure times aren't very good. Hopefully, those can be changed in the future.
