UA 777 At CAK & Preparation For It

Tue Aug 10, 2004 8:42 am

I was playing around at flytecomm.com, because I have nothing better to do  Big grin , and came across UA 9984, which is a 777 that will apparently be operating ORD-CAK tonight. Obviously, this is a non-scheduled flight due to the 9xxx flight number. I was just wondering if anyone had any info on why UA could be sending a 777 to CAK.

Airline United
Flight Number 9984
Departure City (Airport) Chicago, IL (ORD)
Departure Time 08/09/2004 08:32 PM
Arrival City (Airport) Akron/Canton, OH (CAK)
Arrival Time 08/09/2004 10:21 PM
Remaining Flight Time 00:49 (planned)
Aircraft Type Boeing 777-200
Current Altitude 0 feet
Current Groundspeed 0 mph
Flight Status Planned

This leads me to a question. What are some of the factors, problems, and considerations facing airlines when they bring such large aircraft into smaller airports like CAK. Surely CAK must be able to handle it, but what are some preparations that must be made prior to and during the visit at smaller airports?

Thanks

They can borrow canloaders from FedEx or some cargo operator, they can use one of their existing sets of airstairs.... unless CAK has some existing gate or gates that can handle a 777.
It's a new day. Every moment matters. Now, more than ever.
