I did a solid 3.5 hours of spotting from the terminals in ATL
back in April, got quite a bit of action (I was somehow able to fleet the entire ASA ATR-72 fleet while spotting...all 19 of those birds). They have some good locations at the end of the concourses (the DL
end of C is pretty good) that overlook the airfield.
As for the Renaissance, I haven't stayed there, but I might by the end of the year, if not early next year. From GSO
, flights to ATL
are pretty cheap, so I am seriously considering spending my birthday in Atlanta, flying DL
down in the morning, go to a couple of Braves games (they play the Mets at night on the 28th, then the 29th at 1), then fly back at night...you can't really celebrate a birthday much better than going to 2 ball games, doing a ton of spotting, and taking a flight.
