MIA-LHR On BA, Question Over # Of Flights

Wed Aug 11, 2004 3:58 am

Hey guys, I was looking at the possibilty of crossing the pond for the holidays in December and enjoying some cold weather.

Now, I noticed on both amadeus, AA.com and British Airways.com that they have on select days(specifically Dec. 18 2004) up to 3 744 BA flights leaving from MIA-LHR( Service states: after Nov 21 2004 til about March 24 2005). Is that true? that high a demand for MIA-LHR during that time? 2 daily..granted but 3 daily on 744 seems like alot. Just wondering...as I am exploring my options.

If that's the case that would be 3 daily (select days...usually 2) 744 service on BA, 2 daily (select days...usually 1) 772 on AA and 1 744/A346 on VS to LHR. Being 6 daily MIA-LHR.

Any thoughts ? info?

WOW that's a lot of flights MIA-LHR. Had no idea the route was popular enough in the winter time for AA and BA to add flights (assuming this is correct). Looks like there will be a lot of people coming for the warm(er) weather during the holidays contrary to Miaskies! I've done many a December in London, and that's what you'll get, cold weather!  Big thumbs up

Cheers,

Yes, BA flies 2X daily during the summer...this is the first I've seen on the 3rd flight, hasn't been referenced in local papers. 6X daily to LHR does sound like a lot, but I think that you would be suprised at the number of British who either live here or visit here. I would think that a 777 and 2 744s would do ok, but 3 744s (+1 VS 744 and 1 AA 777) seems like a little much.

I went to BA.com and got this:
09:40 14:20 LHR MIA BA 0207 744: DAILY
13:30 18:15 LHR MIA BA 0209 744: DAILY
LHR MIA BA 0205 744: 1/6 only
NEXT FLIGHT: FLL-ATL-HPN on FL

Two words:
Carribean
Disney!

Miami is a big transit airport for us Brits. I know there are direct flights to both the above places but sometimes it can be cheaper non-direct. I guess one or two people might visit Miami too! Escaping the cold winters of the UK I expect.

Well look at that, I just posted about this. This winter BA will operate two extra flights a week to Miami on Mondays and Saturdays. MIA is one of BA's busiest and most profitable long-haul stations, especially during the winter. The demand is very much there. Monday and Saturday are traditionally the two busiest trans-Atlantic travel days from Miami, and the flights are timed very close to BA 206/207 to make sure that when that flight is oversold, there is room for them on the next departure shortly there after. In addition, rumours are VS will be adding more flights to MIA this winter, we'll have to see...

Thats what I said, 3 744's on BA MIA-LHR seems like a lot!

Hey living in Miami and having 85 degree XMAS every year! gets boring...hahahahaha

Granted, the Brit-MIA(FL as whole) market is huge! I have many friends from the UK that visit every year....they love the vibe here...as one puts it "the Ibiza of the U.S.".

The British are coming...the Brtish are coming...  Wink/being sarcastic

Plenty of people stay in MIA. MIA-LHR is a very large busisness route. Sure some people stop in to get a cruise but I would not expect someone to fly to MIA and than take the Drive up to MCO when they can fly cheap with VS to MCO from MAN or LGW and also BA from LGW. Some might go to MIA to go to the Bahamas but BA does have LHR-NAS on 767. Miami gets plenty of Brits that stay a few days or weeks and than go to MCO and the Bahamas. As I see many Brits here durring the winter. Some might also come to connect to the Carribean and Central America but not many do that.

Flymia - in fact a lot of people DO do exactly that. I forgot to mention the cruises, but as a connecting point for the Carribean and for Orlando (flying to, not necessarily driving), and points in between, it is a large market. I also forgot to mention Central and South America since we don't seem to get too many direct flights there. I guess you don't really see the direct transiting passengers! Certainly a lot of my friends and family have been thru Miami on their way somewhere else.

I'm not surprised. I flew MIA-LHR about two months ago and the flight was packed. I'm flying back today in a week and the flight is packed too! No surprise the add a flight in the winter season. Btw, how many flight are there b/w UK and MCO/TPA?
