American Airlines hires international crew (although is not international for you). I remember SCL-MIA, the crew was 100% Chilean.

I think LAN also hires international crew. Europeans at least for the Spain, Germany flight

BA hires lots and lots of foreigners, and try to put the right languages on the right flights.

Some Middle Eastern airlines hire a high percentage of foreigners.

Ryanair employs foreigners as well.
But AFAIK you have to pay them just to send your application to them.

Hi,

Finnair has for sure Japanese, Chinese and Thai crew members for the routes to those countries. I'm not sure if they have other nationalities among the crew members...

I believe that Saudi Arabia has some Malaysian FAs, as well as FAs from other countries, as I believe that there is a rule that Arab women cannot work/be involved on planes.

CRJboy, do you speak a foreign language? If not, try to learn an "unusual" one or two, but still from places with lots of BA flights.

Swahili comes to mind, as do Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish (good luck  Big grin), Hungarian, Czech, Russian, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese...

Foreign languages have not been the most important factor in my career, but certainly one of them. I helps to be the only one in the company who speaks French, Italian and Swedish when we have so many customers in those countries.

And if nothing else, languages are a great way to understand the underlying culture.

I know that all Gulf carriers do:

Gulf Air
Emirates
Qatar
Saudi Arabian
Kuwait Airways

I also know that Singapore Airlines hires from neighboring countires: Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand -- all based in Singapore.

I know that UA and NW hired Asian crew for the Far Eastern routes, but given the current conditions they may not be hiring so many folks.

Good luck!!

SafetyDude,

There is no such rule that Arab woman are not allowed to work onboard. There are Arab countries with female pilots, however not in Saudi Arabia.

I have met several westerners working for Emirates and they absolutely love it. If I were a bit younger and/or unattached I would consider a 2 or 3 year contract with them. Check out the web site http://www.emiratesgroupcareers.com (slightly different address than what was posted by SpringbokUSA).

I remember reading that there was a reason and that Saudi/Arab women could not work on Saudi Arabian Airlines.

I understand that airlines hire foreign or international crews... but not Americans. You'll notice that open houses for Emirates are all over the world, except the United States. Regardless of how many languages you speak, the US passport required for travel and layovers proves too many problems with visas and entry requirements - possibly due to politics. I speak English, Japanese, and quite a bit of French (Moms from Japan, Dads from France, Im first generation American, but only have US citizenship) I would have loved to flown for JAL or AirFrance, but for now am stuck here in the US with a LCC.

If Im wrong, please tell me! I would love to learn how I could get on with BA, VS, or JL....

United does as well. There was a part of that book United publishes talking about an Australian pilot who was flying JFK-LHR. It said as long as there are two flights to the destination the pilot has to serve, you can fly that route. If that wasnt clear what I mean is. The pilot can fly UA from SYD-LAX-JFK. If the SYD-LAX flt is canceled, Qantas would fly that pilot to NYC.

Emirates flies all over the world, except to the US but JFK service has started. I imagine that it is not worth it for EK to open a crew base/hiring open house for one destination.

Cathay hires international crews too. A friend of mine, who is a F/A at CX, has been working with some "Englishmen" colleagues for a while already...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

On top of the list, we also have Kenya Airways, which hires Hong Kong based crews as well...

Air France also.
There's at least one chinese flight attendant for flights to and from China.
Flying is amazing!
