Go Easy...Go ATA

Wed Aug 11, 2004 7:01 pm

I must say that as an ATA gate agent @ MDW, hearing that damn tune everday, the more I hear it the more I like it! I hated it at first, but now it sticks in my head and I think it is a catchy tune for customers. I still think "On ATA...you're on vacation," was the best. However, I think this slogan may have impact on the airline. (Especially now with business class starting). What do u guys think?

I agree. It has grown on me.
So when can I reserve a seat in the new Business Class from IND to SRQ? It doesn't show on the web site yet...

I have yet to hear this new slogan. I do remember the old one, I use to work for a tour operator that ATA was the carrier for us. We use to hate that slogan as once a delayed happen people would throw that in our face all the time. This was back when the flights were mainly L1011's and B727's and the 757 were just coming on line.

I believe the biz class will be loaded into the system later this month. I received an email stating that new biz class banners are being delivered to the stations with a display date of 8/18.

If you listen to Cubs' games on the radio, you get a hefty dose of that tune. For a while, I kept hearing "I wanna go E*bay". Then it was "don't wanna go easy". I KNEW what they were singing but it still sounded odd to me. The newer ones (with the lady singing) aren't quite as bad.

I used to fly ATA to Vegas from BOS through Midway and enjoyed myself very much especially when the 738 was brand spanking new. The route still exsists but now it's all about Song for me, direct, and with TV.

I remember a while back we were rerouting pax due to a cancellation. This guy standing in the back of the line kept yelling the whole time "ATA stands for absolutely terrible airline!!!!" I couldn't help but chuckle and think what a dumbass he was.

Hopefully the aircraft that have been retrofitted will start showing up in Sabre sometime later this month. As stated above.....the tentative date will be 8/18. Also, the top frequent fliers will now be labeled 'Elites'. The 'Elites' should also recieve a complimentary upgrade to biz class sometime soon as well. The full transition should be complete as of mid-Novemeber so keep in mind if you're travelling ATA and want biz class...it might not be available on your a/c yet.

Business Class: After nearly a year in the works, we will formally launch our new premium product later this month, opening it up for sale for travel later in the Fall. We will kick off the new product at the largest convention for corporate travel managers (NBTA) being held in Orlando this week, with our new seats proudly on display and a series of media interviews to talk up the new product.

This is from John Happ, Senior Vice President Marketing and Sales.

My first ATA flight was a day r/t from PHX to MDW for a job interview at Deutsche Bank. Both flights were in dusty, old, and I mean old, 727s. This was in 1997. I got seat 1A on the way to Chicago, and as we were landing the seal on the door was leaking water onto my suit pants. The flight back was a lot better.

I flew them later from LGA/PHX r/t at Christmas time, and the planes were still old, but this time 757s. It is an interesting experience landing at MDW in a 757 and then the taxiing. I would be curious to see what their new 738s are like.

Im flying between SJU and MCO on ATA on August 29th, I havent flown ATA in 3 years so Im looking forward to improvements (ranging from seeing the updated cabin crew uniforms, maybe catching a glimpse of the new business class product). I wish I could have gotten the 737-800 with winglets for my flight but my flight is scheduled to a 757-300.

I have flown both the 737-800 and 757-300. Nice Planes. The 753 looks really long in ATAs configuration. Cabin crews were very pleasant, even allowed me to move to a better seat once the doors were closed. I'd fly them again if they ever start flying to Houston.

I liked my ATA experiences very very much. Like I said, I flew them a few times to Vegas through Midway and enjoyed myself very much. I was also starving this one time, and almost right on cue, they strated passing out Hot Pocket pizza pockets with pepperoni.

Look crew members, not all pax are hard to please, I was damn happy!

With regard to the music...

I have enjoyed almost all of my ATA experiences (especially the ones where they've beaten NW pricing on flights out of MSP). However, I wish there was a way to stagger the order that the music videos play in while passengers board.

I heard that creepy 80s Robert Plant cover tune at the exact same moment while I was buckling my seat belt on all four of my flights during a MSP-MDW-DCA-MDW-MSP itinerary last month. Ditto for this lousy Carly Simon tune on some flights I took in '03. How about some alternate eastbound and westbound music video reels for the sake of variety?

I'm only half joking,

Chepos.....

Bring us some good Rum!!!! Anyway...hope your flights are enjoyable! The MDW-MCO-SJU-MCO-MDW flights are always packed full. Be sure to give us a trip report. My ma and sis non-revved on that flight out last April and were among the last to get on.

Just another note on the biz class....

737-800 will now seat 160 pax
757-200 will now seat 185 pax
757-300 will now seat 232 pax

Seats will be for example: 1AD and 1DF.....upgrade prices will be based on miles of flight length...ranging from $40-$200.

I'm just wondering how many passengers scheduled to fly on ATA showed up at AirTran by mistake and vice versa. I can see how the similarity of names (America Trans Air vs. AirTran Airways) could be quite confusing.  Nuts

Kim777fan.....

Happens all the time. Our counters here at DAY are in the same corner of the terminal. I would say that people go to the wrong counter at least 5 to 10 times while on my shifts. All I say "Airtran's in the corner...they can help you better than I can!"

"I have enjoyed almost all of my ATA experiences (especially the ones where they've beaten NW pricing on flights out of MSP)."

- Everyone knows I am an TZ fan and have been for years. I booked most of my flights for this winter (IND to parts south) and I checked IND - RSW with NW. TZ beat NW by $40 each leg (not to mention newer equipment)!

"Bring us some good Rum!!!! Anyway..........."

- I don't know what brand they have, but the rum they have on board is always fantastic!

- Getting back to the topic, I have always liked the current tune. Someone earlier mentioned the "Vacation" tune and I liked that one also but with the heavy turn towards the business travelers, they thought (I'm sure George had something to do with this) that tune would best go the same way as the "Palm Tree" vertical stabilizer!

Although not on topic - I didn't want to start a completely new thread...

There will be a *HUGE* change coming Saturday morning to ATA.com. I'm curious to see what everyone thinks of it.

So...take a look at ATA.com now...and again Saturday morning sometime....

This is really an exciting time for the upgrade of ATA's product. They will be set above the other LCC with their premium service offering. Lets hope that they can turn a profit soon.

I was surprised when so many people in non-destination cities knew the old them song, "On ATA you're on Vacation"...that really caught fire. But the new song "GO Easy..." kinda grows on you too..
We are excited about the business class, another chance to shine and show our pride in our 'little' airline. Another thread mentioned how we only served SAN for a short period..we figured that it just didn't get advertised enough, since some of our crews living in SAN never heard a thing on radio/tv. And a lot of people have never heard of us STILL: seems someone has a job to do to get the word out. Our job is to take good care of them once they arrive.
Just my thoughts from a humble F/A crewmember.

I flew ATA once from PIE-SFO and it was a wonderful experience. They probably couldn't make money on this route though and cancelled it just a few months later.

Great airline and hope I get a chance to fly them again. I watch their planes take off every day and man that 738 is quiet. Livery is very nice.

Do you really notice a difference between an A320/757 from NW to a 737/753 from TZ? Some of NW's A320s are newer than TZ's planes.

I don't know what brand they have, but the rum they have on board is always fantastic!

The rum should be complimentary because most of those FAs are so nasty. (By nasty, I mean rude. Take it as you wish.)

Don't get me wrong, ATA has really nice planes. They have got top of the line equipment, but the product and presentation of the airline is less than desirable.

Some people would argue, "You get what you pay for." I disagree, the only ATA I fly is AirTran Airways, the service on that airline blows any competitor (LCC or Legacy) out of the water.

ATA has some things going for it, but enough not going for it to keep me on other airlines.

TJ,

The fact that you live in MSP (deep NW territory) wouldn't be clouding your view any, would it?

No doubt, ATA has some work to do, but we're running a solid airline.

No doubt, Joe, that they are running a solid airline. It is not the worst one out there. But as far as NW clouding my view, there are more than 11 other airlines serving MSP. Just because I know the facts about our largest one doesn't mean that I am spinning things like aircraft age. Just because they operate some older a/c does not mean they use them on every route. I usually fly airlines other than NW if the destination permits, TZ had its opportunities and couldn't come through. Maybe again in the future, but most likely not.

Man.....what's happening on these flights.....

Everytime I have flown on C8 or TZ I've had nothing but courteous flight attendants. I know working here we have some bad apples but sheesh all I hear is that our F/A's are rude(Cubsrule and AviatorTJ). I mean...what happened....did they throw a drink on you or something???
