Which Manufacturer You Most Likely To See At LHR?

Thu Aug 12, 2004 4:17 am

I work at LHR everyday and have always wondered which manufacturer has more aircraft at LHR, are there more Boeing flights at LHR or more Airbus flights each day?

Something ive always wanted to know

I think is Fokker. VLM, KLM, LUFTHANASA, SKYWAYS, LUXAIR, AIR BALITC, HELVETIC, PORTUGALIA AIRLINES, and others that serve the LHR airport.

Airbus. Recently spent a day spotting at LHR, and a large majority of the narrowbody flights is carried out by an A32X (I'd say 4 out of 5). Both BA and BD fly large numbers of them into LHR. For widebadies, it's Boeing. Combining both, Airbus wins.

Yes Airbus, but only just, mainly because of the huge amounts of BA 320s/319s, which are undoubtably the most common aircraft in any one livery to be seen at LHR (too many for us spotters  Big grin). Other reasons include the ever expanding VS and BD Airbus fleets, and new carriers operating in with Airbus widebodies such as Etihad.

Boeing easily outperforms Airbus in terms of widebodies, 747s and 777s everywhere. However there are more short haul flights ex-LHR than long haul, and with so many European carriers operating Airbus short haul these days there are more Airbus a/c operating ex LHR than Boeings.

Once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned forever skyward
