This plane came to KSAT last fall and underwent maintenance/inspections. I was wondering if anyone had any information on why it's operator changed from Qatar Amiri Flight to Worldwide Aircraft Holding and why it was sent to San Antonio Aerospace (SAA) for this work. This plane, for whatever reason, fascinates me and I'm hoping to learn more about it.

This won't be of much help to you, BUT ... this plane was at Love Field in Dallas for over 1 year. It was being refurbed by Associated Air Center. I took a photo of it years ago and I was fascinated with it too.

I was at DAL when it arrived. It had no passengers, but a complete crew of British Airways employees got off, including 9 FA's. I thought that was strange.

SP's are one of my favorites:

My guess it it belongs to some shek of the middle east.
Next time get the registration. We can track it that way.

According to Jetliners, it was an old Pan Am bird. Former registrations: N539PA and N148UA. Delivered: 1979-04-20.

I saw this aircraft at FLS maintenance in DUB last year. Looks like it goes round the world for refurbishments and maintenance  Smile

I have seen this aircraft in RDU several times. The story I got then was that it belonged to a prince of some sort from Qatar. He is attending college here in the States and was using the SP as his personal conveyance to and from home.

Must be nice!

The inside is well worth a view, as it's got gold taps in the bathrooms and various other luxury fittings.

This aircraft is a Boeing 747SP-21, registered VP-BAT and officially owned by "Worldwide Aircraft Holding"... A company that belongs to the Qatar Gvmt.

It was delivered originally to Pan AM on April 20th 1979 as N539PA "Clipper Blackhawk", then sold to United Airlines on Feb.12th 1986 (N148UA).

It was sold on Nov 16th 1995 to the Qatar Gvmt and became VR-BAT.
It was re-registered VP-BAT on May 14th 1997.

What I´ve seen this 747SP is/was fore hire, rockbands, VIP´s etc.

There was a program when Rolling Stones World Tour (Lick ??) some 100 years ago and the crew flied allover the world with this a/c.

This plane dose visit RDU once a year or so. But it's to bring in the Prince/(whoever it belongs to) family member in for eye operations at Duke Hospital. It comes in once or twice a year. I've been lucky enough to catch it twice. That's why it shows up at RDU.
