I was wondering, could a 757 fly between MDW and either LHR or LGW? I know the biggest equip. MDW can hold is a 757, is that true? -or could a 767 fly in there?

Any info appreciated.

You recall that United flew DC10's into Kona when it was a 6500-ft runway, and AA flew A300's out of St Thomas when it was officially 5350 (?) ft. But don't know whether anything could get out of MDW with a worthwhile payload nonstop to LHR.

It all depends on its weight, I would highly doubt that a fully-laden 757 taking off from MDW could go to LHR.

Even if a plane could make it from MDW to LHR, I have a strong feeling that it would never be allowed. American and United, who both operate international flights from O'Hare, would not take kindly to international competition out of MDW. They would both block any airline from attempting international service at MDW. Nevertheless, I do think it's a great idea, but given the physical limitations of MDW (runways are too short) and the politics of won't ever happen.

The runways are way too short for a long-haul flight, even a 757.

Well, I know ATA flies '57's into MDW, thats why I wasnt sure. I know CAL flies one from CLE-LGW non-stop and CLE is right next to MDW. I was wondering because my VA is hubbed at MDW, not ORD, infact has no flights to ORD. I wanted to start service from MDW, so then all of our east coast hubs could have service to London. Our hubs: DTW, IAD, MDW, LAS, LAX (very very mini hub). Just wondering.

BTW- Our International 757's would most likely be configured with less seats (more comfort), which means lighter weight?

If someone could come up with some stats with the payload of a full 757 and if it could fly that route, it would be greately appreciated!
