Air New Zealand From LHR To NZ

Fri Aug 13, 2004 4:58 pm

Is it true that the pacific route has more turbulence and gives a more bumpy ride than flying the asia route when flying to New Zealand??

Much of a muchness. Great airline, great destination

NZ have got to be one of the best airlines out there.
So if there is a bump, I'm sure you will still be happy  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Not quite LHR-NZ but on LHR-SYD it's...

Not true! Also, if they ask you to change seats when you get on at LHR so that a newly married couple can sit next to each other, do so. I didn't want to give up my window seat to LAX for an aisle seat. But I did and the crew assured me I'd have my window seat for the LAX-SYD leg.

They gave me the window seat alright, bounced up to First from Business class with the crew thanking me for being the only bloke willing to give up his seat. Flown SYD-LHR so many times on QF & BA that I've lost count and never been upgraded once! Service was awesome too.

Hmmm ok I'll have to take your word for it! I've heard they are a good airline to use and with them upgrading their fleet next yr thought they might be worth a try.

NZ is a great airline with fantastic service, but if connecting straight through from LHR-AKL, then prepare to be bored. They only have the main screen in Y class and show the same films for each leg of the journey. Other than that, fantastic airline.

And that is why they will be upgrading the 744 fleet starting next year!

I thought the Bay of Bengal was supposed to be just about the worst area in the world for turbulence. That'd be on the asia route to LHR (depending on the routing). I haven't found USA-Australia and USA-NZ to be extraordinarily bumpy. In my opinion the North Pacific is worse than the south (I've never flown over the Bay of Bengal).
