I believe Air Madrid is already operating the existing flights Quito-Madrid with a stop in Panama (not in the Madrid-Quito part). Anyone knows why?

Anyway, from september the 2-weekly flights will be Madrid-Panama-Quito-Panama-Madrid.

Maybe for weight issues.

Quito´s airport elevation is about 2800 meters (about 9200 ft) and it´s runway is just about 3000 meters long, so I don´t think there´s a chance for a fully loaded aircraft to take off from there for a nonstop transatlantic flght. KL and IB flights to AMS and MAD both take off from Quito with little fuel and make a stop in Guayaquil (at sea level) before crossing the Atlantic.

Oh yes, you are right RCS763av.

KL flights from Quito to Amsterdam make a second stop at Bonaire. This doesn´t happen on the way from Amsterdam to Quito.

Good news for panamanians. But bad news to CCS. We'll sure miss those pax coming from PTY in the afternoon each day to take their connecting flight to Europe.

A little correction: KLM flies the route Amsterdam-Bonaire-Guayaquil-Quito-Bonaire-Amsterdam (coincidently from today they will fly first to Quito and secondly to Guayaquil, with MD-11).

Luisde8cd: indeed bad news for CCS, but may be Air Madrid will fly there in future? Sad too that KLM stopped their flights to Venezuela after so many years...

Who knows if the route can handle three operators... CCS-MAD is already well covered by three carriers.

After several weeks of problems with the colombian government and community, I guess that the silence indicates that things have gone back to normal. They are operating thursday and saturday to BOG via CTG.

Indeed it was sad to see KLM pull out of CCS. It was also sad when they downgraded their service from a MD11 to a B763.By the way. They had ahuge 1-page ad in a major Venezuelan newspaper thanking Venezuela for their support in all those years they operated in the country. It's a sad consecuence of the merger with Air France... I'll never forget those blue MD-11s touching down in CCS's hot runway 09 in the afternoon. I know they operated a 747 with a stop in Curaçao before switching to non-stop with the MD-11 but I was too young to remember the 747.

Air Madrid in Venezuela? hmm I haven't heard anything. Right now Santa Bárbara is kicking IB and Air Europa butts with their lower fares. Also they are the only ones flying to the Canary Islands (Tenerife-Los Rodeos) after IB pulled out of that route. They also fly to Santiago de Compostela nonstop seasonal service during summer. They have a big market share in the Spain-Venezuela market.

Will it be the same plane as the Quito Route? or will it be a different one?

I am stilll not convinced that panama can handle an almost everyday service to Madrid, becouse if you combine IB and Air Madrid, you get 6 flights a day, that seems a lot for my little country!. Any Idea if Air Madrid will begin fliying to Cancun?

Caracas will really have a falll in traffic. since the end of TWOV in Miami, Most people traveled to Caracas to go to Europe.

Unfortunately only through their web page we can find some answers.

As I stated many times, apparently it's not working.

Can you try their web page? Maybe your will be luckier than me.

Thanks,

From the website http://www.airmadrid.com it appears that for the time being there is only the Madrid-Panama-Quito-Panama-Madrid, on monday and friday. I.e. no other service to Panama.

Just Checked, It doesnt say anything offiacly, but if you compare the Quito and Panama section, the departure and arrival times into Madrid are the same.
What is Air Madrid's call sign?
