Any News On Emirates And SFO?

Sun Aug 15, 2004 2:02 am

Does anyone have any news about this service? I remember hearing that the route was planned. As I remember correctly SFO won the flight when the decision was between SFO and LAX. After that I remember hearing that the service should commence on January 1st 2005. I checked the Emirates website but found no information. Technically if the were to begin service in January, they should have some commercials going around San Francisco to promote ticket-selling, just like Air New Zealand did with their new flight. But I see none of that.
So if anyone has any information about this service please share it with the rest of us.
Thanks in advance.

Probably going to be one of their A380 destinations.  Big grin

They are still waiting for government approval for the route. No use advertising the route if they don't get approval.

I show on the "Great Circle Mapper" that DXB is 8103 nm from SFO, just out of the 8000 nm range of the A380-800. It would be within the range of an A340-500 (just about everything IS), or within the 8500 nm range of a 7E7-7 when it is produced. Unless the A380-800 gets an unexpected range boost rating, we may have to wait for either an A380-700 or a "A380-800ER".

Legacyins,

It should be wait for the government approval for begin new service from DXB-SFO anytime soon and you will find out soon. It is very longer flight from DXB-SFO. It was more than of 18 hours, correct? It look like with SQ is flying from SIN-EWR for 18 hours on the flight.

But if their status is only waiting for government approval aren't they running a little late for starting January 1st?
