New 744 Freighter For EL AL

Mon Aug 16, 2004 6:19 am

Does anyone know where El Al is getting new 744 Freighters from. I read in the paper today that the company expects to take a loan for around $400 million for 4 new Frieghters. Is that the total amount that they will pay for the planes or is that after they sell some assets or will they be putting up some of the cash?
Four newfreighters would cost about double that.
I think these new planes are suppose to replace the aging 742's.

for 4 new Frieghters
Well, if they are getting four "new" freighters, they would be from Boeing, or a leasing corporation.  Big grin

I will try to find if there is anything on the news page.

I think that there are a good number of 744s on the second hand market at the moment, available from airlines, leasing companies and/or via Boeing.

Well, there is an SQ 744 getting ready to be converted to freighter in Tel Aviv. Has a launch customer even been announced for that yet?

That sounds like it is for CX, but I believe that one plane already arrived in Xiamen - and others are to follow later on - but I have no clue why it might be doing in Tel Aviv, if it is the plane. The other possibility is that it could be a former Air Namibia 744C destined for the UAE's ruler and his family, but I have no more information on it.

Will, that's a different plane. The one at Tel Aviv is ex- 9V-SMK and now reg as N127LC. It's not for CX for that matter.
