Which Airport has nonstop service to the most countries?

...has nonstop service to the most countries? This is out of sheer morbid curiousity, in case you were wondering what the basis was...

LHR, AMS, FRA and CDG come to mind

LHR is the world's busiest international airport in terms of passenger numbers, but I don't know if it also serves the most countries.

For FRA I count 89 countries served nonstop (incl. Charters). There are some more countries served by direct flights.

I thought it was CDG - but that might be just for Scheduled flights. (Charters don't count  Smile/happy/getting dizzy )

Hmmm...would have thought Miami with all its Latin American flights.

Here's a thought question: Let's say we count every island in the Caribbean as an independent entity. For example, that would make St. Maarten/Sint Martin count as neither France or Netherlands (which Miami already has non-stops to), but as its own entity.

If you were to then count the number of non-stops to all the different "entities", would that put Miami over the top? And considering AA is trying to end the "hops" that it used to do in South America, is there going to be any major city without a non-stop there?

LHR - it has to be, I would think. Just watching the flights depart from the big windows in T4 it is incredible.

It isnt LHR because its too busy and too diffucult to get slots. Therefore you miss all this "exotic" carriers which only offers one or two weekly flights to their home country.

Yes, FRA lays claim to having the most nonstop destinations, so probably in the most countries too.

However don't forget that, excluding FR at HHN, FRA is the only airport for Frankfurt, and has three runways so more slots. I've always thought it would be interesting to look at which city has nonstop service to most destinations. London, with five airports, has in total a huge number of destinations on offer that I expect is considerably greater than from FRA and HHN combined. There are many airlines that for economic or slot constraint reasons cannot operate from LHR so consequently operate out of LGW (not talking about locos) instead. There are also a huge number of low cost destinations served from LTN and STN.

I love how someone on this board can post a definitive answer to a question, and 10 posts later people are still saying "I think it's xxxxxx"  Smile

Give you a clue - it's in reply #3 (mine!). Okay, so we're relying on a web encyclopaedia for the information so it may not be 100% correct.

Star_world, I think it's because many people don't read all the replies!  Wink/being sarcastic

For Miami, have a look at http://www.miami-airport.com/html/cities_served_nonstop.html. Interesting only 7 European countries are served. 7 South American, 9 Central, plus Canada. That's 24, now somebody determine which Carribbean islands belong to which countries! In any case, the max is 24, giving a total of 48 max from Miami - which isn't that many!

Doesn't it claim FRA has service to most international destinations, not most countries? Or did I miss something?

True, I hadn't spotted that subtlety. However, Frat (reply #6) still suggests 82 countries served, excluding charters.

right it has 3 runways - but they can't use the 3 runways at one time (no parallel landing at least)

OK, I get it, it's FRA, but CDG would have been my first guess, since AF serves all of those north African nations.  Smile

Can someone post the non-stops from FRA?

FWIW, back in 2001 I listed all FRA's nonstop destination-- by IATA code, tho. It's reply #19 at

How does SVO rank? Well, maybe SVO+DME, they probably serve all of the ex-Soviet republics, all european countries, plenty of asian countries, plus the United States (only counts as one) as well as Cuba?

FSPilot747,

That's quite a massive undertaking to move a whole airport nearly 6000 miles like that!!!  Wow!

I know the answer is not LAX, due to the location and the fact a huge ocean is on the border, and North America does not have nearly as many countries as Europe.

Here's the list from LAX:
Non-Stop (28):
Australia
Brazil
Canada
China
Costa Rica
El Salvador
Fiji
France
Germany
Guatemala
Hong Kong
Ireland
Italy (pending)
Jamaica
Japan
Mexico
Netherlands
New Zealand
Panama
Peru
Philippines
Russia
Singapore
South Korea
Switzerland
Tahiti
Taiwan
United Kingdom

Direct Service (6):
Chile
India
Israel
Malaysia
Pakistan
Thailand
