Ft. Laudedale Air/Sea Show May Move To Miami

Wed Aug 18, 2004 12:11 pm

There is nothing on the internet yet, but Miami/Ft. Lauderdale's CBS affiliate is reporting that the Ft. Lauderdale Air & Sea Show, one of the biggest in the country (if not the world), may become the Miami Air & Sea Show next year, if plans to move it to South Beach come true. They are reporting that Miami-Dade County officials have met with the organizers to move the show. The City of Fort Lauderdale and Broward County have had a bumpy relationship with the show promoters, who are looking at other options as to where to move the show. As of now, they are just looking at their options, though moving the show to Miami Beach seems like a realistic one. Story will be appear in the Miami Herald tomorrow.

Pretty good news for me. I'll try to attend it each year.

I don't see how this would work.

1. South Beach is not known for it's great parking. South Beach and the beaches to the north and south would not support the crowds. (To many High rise Condos)

2. The Port of Miami might be able to take Small-Med size NAVY ships but it's to shallow for Carriers and LST/LSD's (Even after being dredged).

So if it were to happen, the "Sea" part would/should most likely be droped. Being that the rest of the Sea part consits of a few Power boats, the Florida Marine Patrol, and some Seadoo demos.

South Beach is not known for it's great parking.

This would be a problem. The solution would be to park in downtown, and there will undoubtedly be a free shuttle service for the five minute drive between downtown and and SoBe. Would it be less convienent? Yes, but it won't stop people from coming.

That will not be a problem. South Beach is very used to handling huge crowds, like Memorail Day Weekend and New Year's Eve. They can handle the crowds.

Still way too early to know what's going to happen. The event commitee is also looking at options outside of Lauderdale and Miami Beach, but those are the two main ones.
