Favorite Airline Magazine

Thu Aug 19, 2004 6:52 am

I was just wondering about some of the favorite airline magazines of the different A.net users. I am looking to renew a couple of my subscriptions: Airways and Airliner World, and have been looking into Air Transport World. I also purchase Airliners and used to get AW&ST. What magzines do you like (these and others) and what ones would you recommend people checking out.

As mentioned, I have been looking at ATW recently and like how they seem to have quite a bit of in depth information on current transactions, developments, new routes, and purchases by airlines, while at the same time maintaining a relatively unbaised attitude between Boeing and Airbus and Bombardier and Embraer.

I have a subscription to ATW and absolutely love it. While it doesn't have the amount of pretty pictures as Airliner World and Airways, it's a lot more in-depth into the actual issues facing airlines today and focuses on things from a management and operational standpoint, rather than from the hobbyist's point-of-view. After all, it's intended market is airline and airport management personnel.

My two favorite for content are ATW and Airline Business.

The former has better feature writing, the best coverage of A/C leasing, and the special issues are outstanding (traffic report, regional, airports, etc).

The latter has a more international flavor and is more well-rounded, IMO and I enjoy reading it immensely. Very good interviews, arguably better than ATW in many ways.

Both have useful stats and traffic figures, etc.

The news blurbs each print though are well out of date by the time I receive, however, so timeliness isn't a great attribute of either from a news standpoint.

Do any of the magazines have a web site?

Airliner World is my favourite! Great mix of news, good pics and interesting articles. Getting thicker by the month too. See:

Well right now I'm still in HKG (at about 11:30), unfortunately, and b/c the internet is so much in the hotel I took a stroll into the mall located under the hotel and found Airways which is doing well for my Aviation needs. It's about $10 USD here, not too sure what it is at home seeing how I never buy them when home.

Thanks again.

UAL777222,

What hotel are you staying in? Are you on Hong Kong or Kowloon?

Definetely Airliner World. Its very non-biased and has great pictures. Also gives info on deliveries by both Airbus & Boeing. Why it chooses those two over all other aircraft manufacturers I dont know (other than obvious), but it works for me.

I wish they would do a story on TAP Air Portugal....here to wishing!

For my money:

1. World Airline Fleets News (pictures second to none)
2. Airliner World
3. Airline Business (I am just learning of this one)
4. Aviation Letter (for spotting purposes-number crunching not photos)
5. Air Transport World
6. Airliners
7. Airways (sorry, the photo quality is crap)

Definetly Airliners. That magazine has lots of funny stories and increadabel articles, such as `reaching back`.

I also like the Greman Aero International. Now if you can speak German its the best one around.
