BA Halts Ticket Sales

Sat Aug 21, 2004 5:55 am

British Airways is so worried about the possible strike that they have stopped selling tickets for next weekend (Aug 27-29).

Looks like things are getting serious.

That's why for the last 3 days I haven't booked any clients on BA for those days. BA will feel it since I only sell C and F class... They better solve this quickly, business passengers don't like those things and remeber them for a long time....

I saw this too, if there is a strike, its gonna be a big mess and BA is trying to limit its exposure, however, its a bit late as I would imagine the majority of passengers travelling on BA next weekend are already ticketed. This is the first time that I remember an airline taking a premptive action such as this, whatever the result, its gonna cost BA lots of money and lost revenue, even if there is not a strike.

I sure hope they can avert the strike - but they certainly are preparing for something serious... yesterday, we already received a message from BA informing us as to how we could process any rebooking requests because of the strike, something that tells me that they, indeed, are worried...

The 27th looks like it'll be chaos, with UA on strike too at LHR. On the 28th it's Eurostar's turn!

At least BD is guaranteed a good weekend if nobody else

I don't think so, BD has a lot of UA codeshares as well. For them it will also be a difficult day. KL/AF will profit.

BD have a route structure from LHR. They aren't United Lite UK

BD will benefit from BA passengers on their shorthaul network. There won't be an empty seat if the strike happens.

Being that the strike has been suspended, after extensive talks today, they can start selling again.

BA will get a reputation! Thye had problems with the CSRs last summer. I believe that their checkin agents at LHR were striking. I never had to check-in at LHR since I was connecting onto ATH from JFK. It wasn't bad for me but I remember the stories. I had a pleasant experience so I will be flying them again. People won't try them with this as their only memory of BA.

Booking is now open again. And they have some bargains - I've booked a MAN/LHR/MAN day return for Friday 27th August for under £60. Usually, a day return on a Friday would mean paying the unrestricted fare of about £270!

Things like this happens to every airline, atleast they are not going bust like some American airliners!

As long as British Airways sorts the problems out for good then passengers will forgive them.

Well, obviously BA took this very seriously, and have thankfully managed to get the strike suspended. A great relief for all involved I imagine. Everyone can start booking again...
