Man Arrested After US Airways Flight

Mon Aug 23, 2004 5:51 pm

I heard this on local radio news and have yet to find a printed source, so if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently a man was arrested and charged with assaulting 3 passengers on a US Airways flight from PHL-MAN earlier this morning.

Does anyone know any more on this?

Found a source - and very enlightening it is too!

http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/news/s/128/128090_passsenger_held_over_fracass_at_30000ft.html

From this article ....PASSENGERS on a Manchester bound flight from America wrestled a man to the floor after he allegedly went on a rampage in the cabin of the aircraft.

The group of travellers leaped on the man after it was claimed he stood on his seat screaming and lashed out at people who tried to calm him as the aircraft was cruising at 30,000 feet above the Atlantic.

After he was subdued, cabin crew used plastic ties to restrain his hands. When the Airbus 330 landed at Manchester Airport police officers went on board and made an arrest.

A frightening tale indeed. I experienced a similar thing on a Swiss flight from Zurich to Amsterdam 2 years ago. Halfway during the flight a guy freaked out because crew refused to give him an upgrade. He than insisted he got of the plane! He was shouting he wanted off that very second. When he started to become violent to the crew 3 of us managed to get a hold of him and calm him down. A very frightening experience.

I call that in-flight violence... a federal violation. I think he'll be a felony regardless of his punishment.
