Lloyd Aereo Boliviano New Livery On A.net

Wed Aug 25, 2004 3:58 am

Finally here!

Alejandro Ruiz from SCL made the honors of introducing LB new colors in A.net.
Thus, LB ends that aweful Vasp livery:

I think it's quite better, although I rather like the cargo version:

Thanks Alejandro. Any thoughts?

Very much "à-la-TAME", scheme of which I am not very fond of. Despite the solid and straight/static look that it gives, it does look better now (that tone of blue and orange will always look great) and it's a major upgrade from the past livery.

Thanks for bringing it up Arcano.

Hmm. I think the jury is still out on this one.

I had the pleasure of flying on that particular aircraft last summer, and although it looked very classy even in the old livery (the winglets really add something), the colors were starting to look just a bit stodgy and dated. Furthermore, I agree that it was about time they broke away from the identity imposed on them by VASP and its terrible management.

However, I'm not sure how I feel about these new colors. They are distinctive for sure, but I don't understand where the orange is coming from--it seems a bit random, since it hasn't been a part of LAB's colors, nor is it part of the Bolivian flag. And while I generally prefer bold stripes to a boring white fuselage, this design somehow feels "cheap" to me, compared to the quiet dignity of the old colors. At least those are my initial thoughts.

In any event, does anyone know what the logo under the cockpit windows is? Is it some sort of anniversary sticker (I know VASP has been around a long time!)?

As I've said in another thread, this new colors kind of reminds me:

Mostly due to the red and blue lines curved down, as in LA's former nose

Technically, they have two 767's.. However, one is in need of structural repairs after a landing incident, and the other blew an engine a few days ago outside Santa Cruz.

Another 727 retrofitted with winglets, bringing Lloyd's total to 3! I too have my reservations about the new colours. They do look odd--somewhere in the middle (yet very far from) of retro and modern.
As for the old colours, I think if Lloyd had given the undersides of their aircraft a polished metal finish, or even white, they would look fine. The irony I see is the VASP-style colour-scheme suiting Lloyd more than their parent company (at least on the 727s), and I think the reason for this is that VASP used dabs of yellow and green while LAB were just blue and white, giving a more serious and professional look to the flag carrier of what is a not-so-serious country.
I don't know, there is something crude and shoddy about the new paint-job. I think it will utterly bastardise the lines of the 767. Looks like something out of Cabo Verde. Un-Bolivian and slap-dash. I know I originally said I liked the colours (smaller photo I saw), and in time, these colours may grow on me. But I would have preferred my "chromed-underside" ammendment. Either way, I will always be fond of "Lloyd Aéreo", for the personality the encapsulate:

Hi,

Great new livery from LAB. The winglets make the 727 look fantastic with that c/s! The freighter livery is even better - very classy  Smile

LVZXV,

think it will utterly bastardise the lines of the 767.

... which is already a pretty tough job, given that, aesthetically, the 767s is nothing more than a rigid cylindre with other accessories.

Now, seriously, I just couldn't agree more with the second parragraph of your last post. If they wanted to use those colors so badly (which almost always blend into a very nice combination - take ACES' livery for example), they could have come up with something, don't know, more modern and stylish, less crude, as you said.

One question, and sorry for my ignorance.

Does the registration number belongs to Bolivia? It's CP.......

Thanks.

Great livery, although I must also admit it's not too "modern". Very similar to the old Pluna. But how many liveries are there like it now? Not many. Good to see a tasteful retro style back on an aircraft. IF everything were to look modern it would be another white fuselage with blue tail. Aren't all airlines supposed to differenciate themselves? Great job LAB! The sleekest looking aircraft in Latin American skies at the moment.

Is this aircraft flying international routes? Can't wait to see the beauty here at MIA. And by the way, creativity wen't down the drain with the cargo version, glad they changed their minds and designed a completely new livery. I was afraid I was going to see another boring Varig or A. Argentinas type of crappy livery that lack any creativity.

Glad to see not all things change for the worse  Wink/being sarcastic

Given all the boring paint schemes coming out these days [that means you, Delta], the new LAB look is like a breath of fresh air.

I very much liked the old livery, but the new one is Wonderful! I am glad to see that they took the time to design an "eye grabber." Great use of color. Thank you LAB for staying away from the all white fuselage! A+  Big thumbs up

I think it might have looked a little better had it used the colors of Bolivia's flag instead of just orange and blue.

Miamix707:

I agree, AR could have done a million times better, and of all their fleet, I think the A340 looks the worst in the new colours. RG's only redeeming feature is their 8-pointed fin badge.

As always, another new livery, many different opinions. I understand why so many people didn't like the VASP-style colours, but having flown on LB 7 times (on 4 of their aircraft), they somehow grew on me.

SOUTHAMERICA:

The 767 is not the most interesting of aircraft, but I'd say it can look good in various colour schemes, notably AA, AV (old), A4, LA, MJ, and RG (old), but not LB. As usual, matter of opinion...

The new colours from a different angle:

Shows the lines a little more clearly (and the badge on the nose--1905-2004 I think it reads), and from this angle I'd say that the colours would have worked perhaps if Lloyd had changed the font and and format of the "LAB" titles on the fuselage. I think it's that that makes the plane and the colours look a little odd. It's an uneasy fusion of two styles (especially the meeting point of the upper blue line and the "L"--too angular).
